Her grief and loneliness are so well written I really felt her sorrow. She is vulnerable but there is an underlying strength that is written into her character that makes her well rounded and believable. The relationship with Gil develops beautifully and their growing attraction for each other never felt rushed. He is considerate of her frailty and has the sense to give her some time to get to know him. The sex was hot and descriptive! I loved that Faye was a confident woman when it came to sex and took the lead with Gil on more than one occasion. That is not to say that Gil's a shrinking violet. Not a chance. He is a dominant lover and takes Faye into some hot new sexual territory that will leave you sweating and breathless. The conflict between Faye and Gil is, no surprise here, about the difference in their ages. She is 43 and he is a good 10 years younger. Faye's belief that their relationship cannot make it in the long term is a believable one. The arguments she has with herself are realistic and I found myself standing in her shoes and nodding my head along with her. Gil's determination to win her over to his way of thinking and give them a chance is sweet and very touching. I love a hero who is written with good depth of emotion and Gil has that in spades. Her sincerity melted his, bringing them to a closeness few understand. Although I would've liked to have seen her be a bit stronger in the clutch, I liked her vulnerability. I liked his straightforwardness. The scene where he touches her with the paintbrushes... whew! You could feel the passion and the love building between them, despite the fact that they refused to believe that they were falling for each other.
