ABOUT ANIKA
I was born and
raised in Jamaica, later moving to sunny South Florida to
complete my college education. I spend my daylight hours as
a public administrator working in my local library. At
night, I am usually writing, playing video games, reading,
watching TV, or any feasible combination of these activities
with writing as the focal point.
My writing career began with the creation of poetry
which I did for many years. I later graduated to erotic
romance, succumbing to the voices of the heroes and heroines
in my head. My stories cross several genres and themes,
involving a mix of all kinds of loving and always with a
happy ending.
I'm very happy to be a part of Siren-BookStrand, and I
dream of the day when writing will be my full-time (and
only) career.
INTERVIEW
Q: When did you first consider yourself an author?
A: The day I realized how much I enjoyed writing.
Q: How long have you been writing romance?
A: I’ve been writing since I was very young but never with any
kind of structure. I wrote out my thoughts which later became my
poems. A little over five years ago, I began writing romance at
my mother’s insistence. My first attempts at story telling were
more along the lines of my poems, very tame. But my current
writing projects are more in the realm of erotic romance of all
kinds. My characters express their love verbally and physically.
Recently, I became very confident with my writings and began
submitting my books to publishers.
Q: What do you like most about writing? What do you like
the least?
A: I like being able to express myself through my words. I write
all different kinds of romance and I incorporate all different
elements into the story. This experience gives me absolute
freedom. The thing I like least is writing the synopsis. I
always have an extremely difficult time picking the elements of
the story to include in my write-up, the parts that would
capture the essence of my story without leaving out something of
significance.
Q: Where do you get the ideas for your stories?
A: Actually, everything inspires me. I might be watching a
movie, hear a phrase or a name being said, or reading a
newspaper article, these everyday things provide me with the
ideas I need to create my stories. I could be walking down the
street and hear someone say a name, and I think that is the
perfect name for my hero or heroine. And that is how my story
would begin.
Q: What is your next writing project?
A: I am working on a story that is much longer than my previous
works. It is about a police officer and the quirky neighbor that
needs his help. It is set in Miramar, Florida. Currently, I am
doing the revisions and I hope to have that completed for
submission soon.
Q: Do you have any quirks related to your writing?
A: Only that my laptop and a writing pad are always with me. I
never know when inspiration will strike and so I always try to
be prepared. I will scribble a name I like, or a phrase, or even
a place that seems interesting. Or I might write out a scene for
a current project or a future undecided one. Unfortunately, I
seem to always get ideas for my stories while driving, on I-95
in South Florida rush hour traffic. Aargh.
