Destination Love
Having lost two wives, John is not looking for a third. How can he
take such a risk and go through such pain all over again? Or maybe it will be third times a charm? It
is because of his hurt that he chooses the
services of a prostitute, Nicola. This is uncomplicated sex and is there
whenever he wants it. There is no involvement, no commitment, and if
anything happens
to her, he can simply move on to someone else. Yet he is involved and he
is committed, and it is becoming complicated.
Can he have fallen for a prostitute? Surely not. She certainly cannot have fallen for him. He
is just another client.
But then Emily suddenly comes into the relationship. Now, things are
really complicated.

EXCERPT
“Ow…shit!” It was a mumble, but that was all it took for John to
recognise her voice, just as she had recognised his. He looked
at the woman’s figure semi-hidden in a flight suit, which could
not completely conceal her amazing curves.
“Nicola! Is that you?”
Both went bright red.
Nicola trembled, as she always did when she was nervous. Then tears
welled up in her eyes and trickled down her cheek.
John stumbled forward, awkwardly, and gave her a reassuring hug. “It’s
okay, honey. It’s okay.” He held her shaking body in his arms.
“This wasn’t supposed to happen. Please, please don’t say
anything,” she pleaded.
“Hey, Nicola, or should I call you Emily? This is me, John. I won’t say
a word. I am still the same man I was yesterday, and you can
trust me, honestly.” He tried to reassure her, but there was no
getting away from the fact this was a very awkward situation for
both of them.
“What are you doing here, John? How the hell did you find out who I am?
Have you been following me or had someone follow me? Shit! This
can’t be happening!” she screamed.
“Is that what you think of me now, a stalker? Hell no, I have a book
signing in London tonight. That’s my limo over there waiting to
take me to the hotel. This is as much of a shock to me as it is
to you.” Taking out his pen, John wrote on the back of his
business card the name of the hotel The Park
Plaza, room 214. “Shit! Look, I have to go.
This is where I am staying tonight. Please, come and see me.”
“I can’t. I have to get back tonight.”
“You’re not flying in that state. Chock it up. Whatever the parking fee
is, bill it to me. I don’t want you leaving till we have talked,
and we need to talk, Nicola.”
“Since when did you become the aviation expert? Just because you have a
few propellers hanging in your flat doesn’t mean you can tell me
what I can or can’t do!” she fired back in a hostile tone.
John gently lifted her chin and looked into her eyes. “Please,” he said,
in a soft voice that seemed to settle her racing heart and
restore her to the Nicola who had been wrapped in his arms the
previous evening. “Please don’t be like that, Nicola.”
“It’s Emily. My real name’s Emily. Nicola is the name I use for, er,
work.” She paused to take a breath before she actually said the
word.
The limo driver blew his horn, waving his arm at the same time,
indicating that it was time to go.
“Are you going to be okay? It’s just I’m going to be late. I have to go.
Promise me you won’t fly out of here tonight? Please,
promise?” He kissed her on the cheek and wiped away the tear.
God, his lips were so soft. Her whole body tingled as his hand touched
her face. She knew he was right, but how could they ever see
each other again now that this had happened? Or could it be fate
intervening in her life once again? She smiled and then nodded
in agreement. “What time shall I be there?” She looked at the
address on the card.
“Around ten p.m. I should be finished dealing with everyone by then.”
John turned and walked towards the limo, turning to blow her a kiss.
Emily grabbed at the air as if to catch it then kissed her hand.
She watched him get into the limo and drive away. Both spent the
next few hours wondering how to deal with this situation.
John’s book signing went well, and he joined a few people in the bar
afterwards for a glass of wine, but all he could think of was
Nicola, or should he say Emily? Even trying to get used to the
name change was proving difficult enough. At five minutes past
ten, nearly all had either gone home or drifted away to talk to
other people. John looked up to see Nicola entering the lobby,
and they both blushed.
John took her in his arms and hugged her tightly. “I don’t know what to
call you. Nicola or Emily?” he said, nervously.
“Emily. No point in pretending now, is there? Emily always from now on,
okay?”
John nodded and smiled. “It’s a very pretty name, Emily. I like it a
lot.”
Walking over to the bar, John ordered two glasses of wine and a bottle
to take up to his room, then together they made their way to
Room 214. On entering, John put the bottle on the side, then
taking Emily’s glass and placing it next to his, he pulled her
into his arms. Placing his hands on her bottom, he pulled her in
close to him. As he did so, he saw the pupils of her eyes grow
larger and then smaller. Something caused a reaction that
normally he would not have noticed. He kissed her, then suddenly
she pulled away from him.
“This isn’t talking, John. This is doing what we always do. In ten
minutes, we’re going to be screwing each other, and that’s not
the answer.”
“Do you have a boyfriend? Husband? Family? It’s just that the ground
crew guy referred to you as the lesbian pilot. Do you
have a partner?”
“No, come on! I am not a lesbian, as you have probably noticed, and I
don’t have a partner, male or female. Who the hell wants to go
out with a prostitute?”
“I do, especially if her name’s Emily.”
“Oh, John. It would not work. We have to say goodbye now,” she mumbled,
knowing it wasn’t what she wanted and she didn’t mean a word of
what she said. “I am sure you have other women you sleep with.
Why am I so different?”
John sat her down on the bed. Once again, he saw the reaction in her
eyes.
“I don’t sleep with other women. There have only ever been three in my
life, and two of those are dead…gone. Maybe I am not the man you
think I am, but when we are together, for me, it’s real. Yes, I
know it’s your job, but you have told me many times that I make
you feel like no other. That’s because I love you. I have for
some time, and now this. Well, I think things happen for a
reason.”
“Maybe that reason is so that you stop seeing me and find yourself
someone who’ll not bring you down,” Emily replied.
John shook his head. “I won’t stop seeing you, Emily. I
can’t. I want you.”
