“Yeah, well, that Luke is history,” he glowered.
“I don’t believe that! Whatever you’ve gotten yourself into I can help you get out of it! What is it, Luke! Drugs? Are you selling drugs with Jerry?”
He looked up at her, his blue eyes blazing. “You’ve got to be kidding me, Hadley! You’re seriously accusing me of selling drugs?”
“How else did you get the money to buy a boat? To buy a prime piece of real-estate? And have enough to carry around as cash?” she cried.
“I’m done talking about this!” he fumed, heading for the door.
“Well, I’m not!” she yelled back at him. “We haven’t even skimmed the surface!”
He turned on his heel and looked at her.
“What do you want me to say, Hadley? Do you want me to say I’ve been selling with Jerry and we’re making a mother-load of money?” he asked exasperatedly.
“So you’re admitting it.”
“Hell, Hadley, just think what you want to,” he said indignantly.
She hastily crossed the patio until she was within his reach. “Why don’t you trust me? Trust me enough to tell me whatever it is that’s eating at you!”
