Alex stared at the closed door. Her heart was pounding in her chest. While it had been good to see Jonah, it had also been really hard. She knew she would miss him, she would miss all of them, probably Logan most of all. But Kieran had been right, and she knew it. She didn’t belong in their world, she belonged in Kieran’s. Faeryland was her home now, for better or worse. It was scary to think about it; it was a big change. But regardless, it was the only decision to make. She couldn’t go home, and if she didn’t stay in Faeryland, where else would she go? Besides, Kieran had been good to her. There was no reason not to stay.
“Are you all right?” Kieran asked, coming to stand behind her.
“Yes,” she lied. “It’s just…” She tried to think of something to
say. Something that wouldn’t upset him. She doubted that he wanted to hear her inner musings about missing her friends, or her thoughts about Jonah and Logan. If he knew that she’d held out hope that Logan had followed Jonah, he would be more than a little upset, of that she was certain. So what should she tell him?
“The time difference is a little hard to deal with. Jonah being here really made me think about it, I guess.
“When the baby is born, twenty-three years will have passed there. Logan could be a grandfather by then, and his first born child will be an infant. Everyone I know will be so much older, and I’ll only be twenty.”
Kieran wrapped his arms around her and kissed her neck. “I know it’s odd to you. But I’ll make you a promise. If the baby is a boy, he can’t inherit my throne, but I will still raise him as my own and make sure he’s take care of. He’ll never want for anything.”
“And if it’s a girl?”
“Then we’ll find the perfect faery for her to marry. Someone who won’t care that she’s a human. And if she wants to live in the palace, then she may do so for as long as she lives.”
“I think you forgot the werewolf part,” she reminded him.
“Only the boys are wolves.”
“Then maybe it will be a girl,” she said.
“Alexandra… why did you come back with me? You could have started a new life in your world.”
She leaned in to him, needing his strength to hold her up. “Because I wanted to come back with you. I don’t belong there anymore. I know that as well as you do. I told you the truth before. I really did want to let them know I was okay. Besides,” she said with a grin, “I didn’t think you were giving me an option.”
He still looked serious. “You wanted to come back with me? Or to Faeryland?”
She turned in his arms. There was no time like the present to embrace her new life. Her old one was obviously long gone. And if she was going to live in Faeryland, she knew that it would be with Kieran. He’d already said she was his destined bride, so why not start that life now? Why fight the inevitable?
“With you.”
He lowered his head to kiss her, and she looped her around his neck. Pressing her body against his, she deepened the kiss, wanting to show him that she was here to stay. When he picked her up and carried her to the bed, she didn’t protest. She no longer had a reason to. Free from Logan, she now belonged to no one. Although, she had a feeling that by the time the day was over, she would be Kieran’s. He was more than ready to lay claim to her, and she wasn’t sure she’d be able to stop him. Or that she’d want to for that matter.
Kieran caressed her jaw with his fingertips, and trailed them down her throat. She tipped her head back, thrilling at the sensation. He stroked the silky skin of her chest down to the top of her dress, and dipped his fingers under the edge of the material. He traced the outline of the dress up to her shoulder and slid the strap down her arm. His thumb caressed the exposed skin, making her shiver. He pulled the skirt of her dress up to her knees and slipped his hand underneath, stroking the outside of her thigh.
“Kieran, I want you,” she whispered.
“There’s plenty of time, love. No need to rush.”
She whined and wiggled under him, making him grin.
He placed a hand on her side and rubbed her with his thumb, gently brushing the underside of her breast. She squirmed until his hand was cupping her breast, and she gasped, arching against him. She was about to come apart, and she still had her clothes on! She’d never experienced anything like it before. His palm rubbed against her nipple, making it pucker, and she pressed against him.
He kissed her again and the hand on her thigh inched higher and higher.
“Kieran… please,” she whispered against his lips.
“Not yet.”
