2012 EPIC Finalist in Fantasy Romance

BEST BOOK: "Kidnapped by a demon, sold by a gnome and bought by the King of the Seelie Fae….and let’s not forget the consort seeking vampires and greedy goblins thrown in just for fun! Megan Starke doesn’t believe in fairytales. She’s not model thin, she doesn’t have a great job, heck her parents don’t even seem to care when she goes missing. In short, Meg is alone. So it made sense when she questioned the new reality she woke up to upon being kidnapped. The Fae is real and so are a whole slew of other paranormals that had until this point occupied the pages of Irish folklore, urban fantasy and Hollywood movies. Beckett Finn could have played the lead role in many of those Hollywood movies and all of Meg’s hottest dreams. He’s the dominant warrior half of a set of mythical symbiotic twins. His brother, Cian, is the playful intelligent half and is on the verge of fading because the brothers have failed to find their fated bondmate. With the help of faithful gnomes, Beck is brought in to meet the captured Meg. The chemistry is instantaneous and sizzling. Beck knows he’s met his mate and she’s packing some attitude! Beck has his ideas of how a bondmate should act and be treated. Meg is an independent woman from Texas. Stand back because the sparks will fly like the Fourth of July! Ms. Oak’s story telling seems to know no limits. She isn’t afraid to step outside her comfort genre and test the paranormal waters. Bound is a superb example of what an author can accomplish when she lets her muse run free. I didn’t think I could love a series more than Ms. Oak’s Siren or Bliss stories but I’m thrilled to be proven wrong by Beck, Meg and Cian’s story. Be sure you have plenty of time to read when you pick up Bound. If you love detailed and layered plots, alpha males, determined females, charming twins, twists and turns and open endings…Bound is the story for you. But you should know going in that this is a story that is hard to put down. Ms. Oak had me invested in Beck, Meg and Cian’s relationship even before ever meeting Ci. For me, the title had a double meaning that lends a clue to the sexual kink that’s important to the underlying growth in Beck’s character as well as his budding relationship with Meg. Bound also describes how Meg is the glue that unites the twin’s souls and gives them incredible talents. Ms. Oak throws in several secondary characters that add so much to this epic story. A cousin to the twins and a vampire, Dante, plays an intricate part of insuring that Meg has a chance to realize the love she has for Beck and Cian even as an evil hag tries to tear them apart. I can’t wait to read Dante’s story. Ms. Oak has already indicated that it’s in the works. The small sample of how she handles the vampire plane was but a teaser that has me impatiently waiting for the next installment. Bound has all the best elements of an epic novel with a smoking hot love story. The characters have both strengths and weaknesses that make their fantastical story all the more believable. 5 STARS: "Sophie Oak, my queen of menage, has left her cowboys at home to plunge me into the fantastic world of hot Fae kings, vampire planets, and the woman who changes all of their lives. BOUND, which I hope and pray is the first of a series, was brilliantly written, amazingly erotic, and utterly captivating, but it left me with one question: who knew fairies could be so hot??? This is the story of Megan, a human, who wakes up chained in some kind of tent, being tended to by some kind of gnomes. YES, gnomes! She was kidnapped from earth by some creature she has no idea the name of, and her world hasn't made sense since. That is, until a hulking god of a man who is the most beautiful man Megan has ever seen comes into the tent to "inspect" Megan. Enter Beckett Finn. Beck Finn finally found the woman who will complete him and his twin brother's triad. He and his brother are supposed to be heirs to a throne, but his brother is dying because they don't have the third to complete them. However, when they all come together, not everyone will be happy. And they will be stop at nothing to make sure Beck and his twin Cian will never reclaim their throne. This was such a great fantasy romance. Fae, vampires, alternate realities...it was all here. I loved the way the author used alternate universes to explain how all of these paranormal characters are present. The plot was extremely well written, and it kept me riveted the entire time I was reading. Megan was a fantastic character. She had a pretty disappointing life when she was kidnapped and brought into Faery. Once she got settled into her new life, she really was quite fierce. And when she was taken away from her men, she was a force to be reckoned with. I thought the concept of symbiotic twins was very intriguing. Beck and Cian weren't just twins, but they were actually two halves of a whole person. It added an interesting dimension to the story and to the relationship between them and Megan. Of course, since we're talking about Sophie Oak, the woman I have appointed my "Queen of Menage", the sex was...HOT...scorching, and just overall yummy. The playfulness of Cian and the dominance of Beck was the perfect balance for Megan. The characters in the book were fantastic. Not only the main characters, but also the secondary ones. They provided humor, sometimes villainy, but were all well-developed. The world-building was also intricate and magical, and added to aid the fantasy that the author created. Some of the explanations provided about the fantasy world also gave me some different perspectives when thinking about our world as well. BOUND was quite a departure from the books we've seen from Sophie Oak so far, but she did an amazing job. She can really weave a wonderful story into erotic romance like no one else. The ending was left open, so I am hoping that it's a sign that there is more to come from these characters. So, another 5 star read from Sophie Oak. Beckett Finn is the heir to the Seelie throne and one half of a whole. His twin Cian and he need a mate to complete them and help them to live to their full potential. Beckett's pride often gets in the way of his wants and needs. His past catches up to him and he needs Meg's love and understanding more than ever before. Cian Finn is the brains of the two brothers and a vivacious lover. It is Cian's job to help Meg adjust to her new position in her new world while trying to be the buffer between her and his own brother. Their happily ever after may not come true if they are unable to figure out who their foes truly are and dispose of them before it's too late. This was such a fun book to read. I truly love the way Ms. Oak creates her stories and mingles all different types of characters in her books. Bound, A Faery Story is so different from anything else of hers I have read, but I loved it just the same. The insecurity that Beckett has about his dominance is a carryover from his childhood and he thinks that Megan is just humoring him when she says that’s what she wants. A lot of us have these types of societal hang-ups and I thought the author did a good job in resolving this issues. This is the first book in A Faery Story series and I am so looking forward to the next one. The main and secondary characters are very interesting, and I found that Dante reminded me of one of my friends.
