Gabriel let out a noise of exasperation. ‘Woman, you really are the most impossible person I have ever met.’ He took a step closer, close enough to remind her of the passion that flared up whenever he was around, destined, it seemed, to keep her tense with desire. She could feel and smell him, but he didn’t touch her. She looked into his eyes and tried to make sense of the thoughts they hid.
‘So,’ she said softly. ‘What do you intend to do about it?’
The words hung and fell between them.
Gabriel crushed her to his chest, his mouth covering hers, his lips and tongue hot and insistent with desire, and hers responding in kind, knowing this time that he would not break off.
All her senses became hyperacute. His taste lingered on her tongue as he moaned and leaned to kiss her neck, her ears, his tongue circling and caressing. All that mattered was the exquisite tingling of her body, the increasing need for him as his hands massaged her buttocks, drawing her to him so that she seemed to mould and they became one. Together, frantically they tore at each other’s buttons then he at her bra until both were topless, her naked breasts relishing the roughness of his lightly haired chest.
Gabriel picked her up in his arms and carried her upstairs, kicking the door open to his room to deposit her unceremoniously on the large red-and-gold bed.
