"You're not a coward, sweetheart," he told her, keeping his voice gentle. "So, why don't you sit back down and hear the rest of this?"

She looked like she was going to try and get past him anyway. Her lovely features were set in an angry, determined frown, and she balled her small hands into tight fists. Drake felt the demon side of him suddenly responding to her challenge. Icy cold adrenaline raced through his veins, and the evil he willfully kept at bay threatened to emerge. He fought it back with superhuman strength.

He knew then, he would have to warn her. Or the circumstances didn't bear thinking about. "Sara, I need to explain something."

She interrupted before he could finish. She took a few steps back. "I think I already know." Her voice was shaky. "I felt that cold instantly." She backed away until she bumped into the chair behind her and then she abruptly sat. Her features were so pale he was afraid it meant she was about to faint. She stared at him, her eyes wide.
