Ready to Move On

Kat rolled over and screamed. “Jason! What the hell are you doing? You have to stop doing that.”

Jason chuckled and came to sit on the edge of the bed. “Sorry,” he mumbled, but she knew he didn’t really mean it. This was not the first time Kat had woken up to find Jason sitting in her living quarters. Since she had finished her first assignment almost two weeks ago, he always seemed to be nearby, and although she’d never admit it to him, she liked having him close. She lifted her head and rested it on his knee; he absent-mindedly stroked her hair.

“I’m going to barricade my door.”

“I’d still get in. Anyway, spy girl, I’ve been here for ten minutes.”

“Creep. Mmm, that feels good. Why are you here anyway? You don’t have to keep checking on me. I said I’m doing fine.”

“I know, beautiful Kat. Maybe it’s me that needs to be close to you.”

She smiled. Jason had been so sweet and patient with her since they got back from their assignment. He knew how emotional she’d been about Ash and the tragic loss of his son. It had been unprofessional of her, but Jason hadn’t teased her and had been there, holding her and waiting for her to be ready to move on. It was no secret that there was a sexual attraction between them, and he’d told her that when she was ready, he was going to have her—all of her.

The thought made her tingle all over. Jason was gorgeous: well over six feet tall, heavily muscled, with light brown hair and green eyes that sparkled with amusement or darkened with lust. He only had to look at her to make her knees weaken and tingling start between her legs. Apparently, she was ready. Jason had said that she’d be able to look back on her first assignment, know it was successful, and not dwell on the emotional side of it. He was right.

She’d been feeling pretty good these last few days, ready to get onto another assignment—and get onto Jason, but she thought she’d make him work for it a little. She was enjoying all the attention he was showing her and couldn’t deny that her desire to have him was growing.

“Actually, this time my early morning break-in comes with a purpose.” Kat sat up. He took her chin in his hand and kissed her forehead. “That was nice but not my purpose.” Kat growled. “Okay, okay. I got orders from Headquarters.”

“You’re leaving?” she asked, suddenly feeling sick.

“See, you do like me. You look so sad at the thought of me leaving! But worry not, beautiful Kat. The orders were for both of us, to work together.”

Kat’s stomach did a flip. “Really?”

“Yes. Remember when I told you I put in a request for us to work together again?” She nodded. “Since our first mission was a success—well, sort of a success—they found us another one.”

She threw her arms around him and hugged him tight. “That’s great! What’s the mission? When do we leave? Who will we be to each other?”

“Whoa, slow down. Someone’s ready to get back in the game! I’ll explain everything, but there’s one thing that HQ needs to know.” Jason suddenly looked very serious. “They asked me to report back to them.”

“What, Jason? What is it? It’s about me, isn’t it?”

“Yes.” He looked her in the eye. “They need to know if you’re really, truly ready to move on, that you are in one hundred percent, no reservations, no... um...”

“Of course.... Oh, I understand. They need to know if I can be in it sexually, if it calls for that.” Jason nodded, and his eyes darkened as he looked at her. She swallowed. “I can, Jason. I’m a professional above all else. I know these last couple of weeks have not been my shining hour, but I’m ready. Really I am. How can I prove that I’m ready to go on to the next assignment?”

Jason gave her a devilish smile that was filled with innuendo. Heat rose to her cheeks, and she swallowed deeply. “Do you mean with you?” The look on his face made her skin prickle with anticipation.

“Yes. Would that be okay?” He didn’t wait for an answer. He leaned in, kissed her passionately, and delicately brushed a hand over her breast. With only the thin fabric of her T-shirt keeping skin from skin, her nipple hardened immediately.

“Now?” she asked breathily. The way her body was responding to him, she hoped it would be now.

“Yes. If you think you—”

“Oh, I can.” She jumped off the bed and ran to the bathroom. Turning back to him before going in, she said, “The real question, Agent Roberts, is, are you ready for me?” He growled as she shut the door.
