The security guard standing by the entrance to the Wolf Den looked like a cartoon character on steroids, but this was no fictional hero, and Noah had a sinking feeling all those massive muscles were one hundred percent genetics. Geez, are they all this big? He'd never been up close and personal with a Lycan before--except in his dreams--and now he realized he'd underestimated the shifters' size and strength. This guy looked like he could throw Noah through a bulletproof window.

Sasquatch checked Noah out from head to toe, spit a wad of tobacco, narrowly missing his new boots, and smirked. "Fresh meat." Then he stood aside, opened the door, and waved him in.

Christ, is that growling? The sounds of a dogfight drowned out the throbbing beat of dance music. Right then, Noah wanted to turn tail and run. He didn't belong here. Swallowing hard, he took a deep breath and thought about it. The whole idea was dumb; he never should have let Jesse get under his skin. No matter how Noah tried to back off, Jesse was like a dog worrying a bone; he just couldn't let it go. Finally Noah got really pissed and gave in just to shut him up. And to make matters worse, he'd agreed to bring back a souvenir as proof. Now he was about to walk into the middle of a wild wolf pack and it looked like Jesse's proof might be Noah's carcass, left on their doorstep like a side of beef.

Noah stared at the bouncer. The large, hairy, humanoid creature at the door looked nothing like the man in his fantasy. In the dream, Noah was a runner, just like in real life but he wasn't running on the track. Somehow he always ended up on a little-used trail that went into the woods.

Avoiding fallen logs and low hanging branches was a challenge after the smooth track he usually ran on. Suddenly a red flag went up and all his instincts went on high alert. He picked up speed and ended up in the middle of nowhere.

Wolves! Noah heard them in the distance, howling as they caught his scent, and right away he knew he was a dead man. They'll rip me apart. Those big canines would tear the flesh off his bones, eat him. Think Noah, think. Don't panic. But he couldn't help it. He ran, knowing full well the thrill of the chase would only entice the wolves more. It sounded like a whole damn pack. He heard panting, and realized it was his own ragged breathing. They were getting closer. Imagining the beasts' hot breath on his neck, he summoned every bit of energy he had left and raced ahead. Too late, he spotted a fallen tree trunk and went face down over it. Two paws landed on his back, holding him down, immobilizing him. Beads of sweat ran down his face and he started to shake. More wolves shot out from between the trees and milled around, panting, tongues hanging out. They edged closer, yellow eyes focused on him. The pressure on his back lifted and he heard a shout. "Stop!" The wolves froze. So did he. Then they all started shifting. The voice above his head held all the authority of an alpha. "This one is mine." The man crouched next to him and ran a hand down his back. Should he make a run for it? He couldn't decide what to do. Then a long claw ripped down the back of his shirt and running shorts.

The wolf-shifter spread Noah's legs apart with his knees, fitted himself between them, and stroked Noah's stiff erection until he moaned and whimpered. Noah struggled, but not to get away; he wanted the man closer, inside him. The Lycan growled and covered his back. The large, rustic room looked older than dirt with hardwood flooring and whitewashed walls. A high raftered ceiling rose overhead, with a narrow mezzanine on the left. The basic layout consisted of a long bar with a line of bar stools on the right, and four small tables along the opposite wall, and between them, the world's most violent dance floor.

Noah edged nearer to the bar and tried to ignore the hooting, hollering crowd that hid the fighters. At least nobody was paying attention to him. The crowd shifted and he caught a glimpse of two men who looked almost as big as the bouncer, duking it out. With all his attention focused on the fight, it took a couple seconds before he heard the bartender screaming in his ear.

When he finally turned, they were almost nose to nose and he was staring into the most hypnotic gold eyes he'd ever seen. Not to mention the long, dark lashes and high cheekbones.
