When the door chime sounded they both spun around to look. Summer whispered, “Wow, who’s that?”

Angel didn’t know but he agreed with her appraisal.

“Gabriel Loveday?” the man in the business suit asked in a serious tone.

“Yes. Detective Sharpe?”

“Yes. Hello, Mr. Loveday.”

“Call me Angel, please.” Angel reached out to shake his extended hand.

“Angel,” the detective said shyly.

“And this is my assistant, Summer Thompson.” Angel gestured towards her.

As she shook the handsome detective’s hand, she teased, “Hubba hubba! You can investigate me any day of the week.”

“Behave yourself, young lady,” Angel chided. “Forgive her, detective. She’s just a kid.”

“Hey!” Summer pretended to pout.

“We’ll be next door if you need us. Okay, Summer?” Angel waited for her nod. He escorted the detective to the door. “This way, detective.”

“Call me, Billy, please.”

“Okay, Billy.” Angel followed him out into the breezy ocean air. They walked the few paces to the café and Billy opened the door for them. As they stood at the counter together Angel asked, “What would you like, Billy?”

“Coffee, please, Angel.”

Angel shouted to Mary, “Two coffees, Mary, please?”

“Right away, Angel!” She waved to him.

“Have a seat, Billy.” Angel directed him to a small table and waited as the detective sat down, opening his jacket button. “Mary will bring them over to us.”

“All right.”

Sitting across from him, Angel estimated this handsome man to be close to his own age. Fantastically fit, a full head of dark black hair and brilliant blue eyes. I thought it was Summer coming back, but it wasn’t. Someone obviously just hurried in, left it on the counter, and took off.”

Feeling carried away at the moment by their flirty banter, Billy blurted out, “Yeah, you want to get dinner later?” then felt like a complete idiot.

To Billy’s astonishment, Angel grinned wickedly and replied, “Yes.”

“Wow. Great.” Billy cleared his throat and set his cup down, missing the saucer and awkwardly causing a clatter.

Leaning closer to Billy from across the table, Angel asked, “So, you liked my movies?”

“Fucking loved them.”

“I can’t tell you how flattered I am.”
