Out on the street, she sucked in the frigid air and ran a palm over her moist brow. It was time to moveagain. Grandma had been laid up in bed for the last three days after a cold had gotten her down, but leaving couldn't be avoided. Adam was closing in.
She crossed the walk over to her car and had slid her key into the lock before a hand rested on her hip. The familiarity made her knock his touch away and spin to face him. "Adam!"
Damn, was he taller than before, broader of shoulder? No, he was just larger than life. He'd always affected her that way, taking up her space, sucking the air out of her lungs until she had to fight just to breathe. Her chest tightened, while her limbs, which had grown steady with each moment after her vision, now quivered all over again.
He wore a long black coat, raised at the collar just as hers was. The same intensity as always reflected in his ocean blue eyes, and his charcoal hair, graying at the temples, was tussled just right about his head. While it was just above freezing when the wind wasn't blowing, Adam was as tan as he had been the last time she'd seen him, a testament that he spent a considerable amount of time in warmer climates.
"Hello, Micah." His expression was serious, his lips tight after he had finished speaking.
Micah had to remind herself that this was a cold-blooded killer. The men she found using her gift were the ones he went out and killed, without hesitation, without remorse.
He stepped closer and removed her glasses. She was lost in his eyes and didn't push him away a second time when he rested a hand at her hip. He thumbed her chin so that her head fell back, and then he covered her mouth with his. She should tell him to get his damn hands off of her. She should knee him in the nuts and punch him in the jaw. Instead, she parted her lips and let him slip his tongue into her mouth.
Straining to get closer, she pressed into his hold and lost herself as she always had in the addicting taste of him, the feel of him. He kissed her lips, her cheek, her throat, all like he had been starving for her, like he had missed her. But she knew better. When common sense got a firmer hold of her mind, she drew back and pushed at his solid chest.
"Let me go, Adam. You have no more rights to my body."
