Spencer took my hand and I thought he was going to lift it away from his face, but no. He covered it with his own. Moved it down to his neck. Still rough, still stubbled, then smooth, the further down his neck my hand moved.
And when he moved closer, this time I was confident enough to pull him in, slide my fingers into his hair. As my thumb grazed the hollow at the back of his neck, the dip at the top of his spine, he groaned against my mouth.
"God, Lydia. I have to..." For the third time his lips moved gently over mine. Briefly. "...kiss you..." The tip of his tongue traced my lips, teased the corners of my mouth until a gasp parted my lips and his kiss deepened.
My hand on the back of his head held him there. Or held myself steady against him.
I couldn’t work out what he tasted of. As his tongue moved along the underside of mine, I thought...mint? Vanilla? Caffeine? But then I lost my train of thought, held nothing less transient than single words or images. The softness of his tongue...warm...and gentle.
I’d never been kissed like that before. Never had another man’s mouth on mine sent shivers of lust up my spine and hardened my nipples and made me weak with longing.
"Jesus." One breathy word against my mouth broke the kiss, but still his forehead touched mine. "What are we doing?"
I licked my lips, tasting him. My arm unsnaked from the back of his neck and flopped down at my side again.
His hand, however, remained on my leg. His face stayed close to mine.
"What are we doing," he murmured, this time almost to himself, and paused for a second. Sat back in his seat.
The sudden lack of contact, of closeness to Spencer jarred and I mirrored his action, tried to catch my breath. "Just..." I swallowed. Hard. "Just kissing."
"Oh no." Spencer shook his head, leaned on the driver door with his elbow, while his other hand reached over to me, rested on my bare knee. "Make no mistake, Lydia." He looked out of the driver window as he spoke, as if scared to look me in the eyes, even as his fingers moved over the skin of my leg. "Nothing about that was 'just kissing'."
