Rainman grinned as a flash of lightning lit her face to perfection. He had her head turned towards him and droplets of blood and rain ran into her eye. She blinked several times in rapid succession, her long lashes fluttering like the wings of a trapped bird. “Does it burn your eyes? The blood that is?” I hope it does, because you have caused quite a stir in town. You are always causing people to fight, or just plain causing trouble for the sheer fun of it,” he said, moving to cut a thin line down the front of her patrician nose. When she struggled excessively, he straddled her body, and leaned down to stare into her eyes.
“I know it must be hard for you to know it is I, Rainman,” he breathed in one long breath, tasting the sweetness of his name on his tongue as he spoke, “that will pay you back for all the masterfully executed deeds of your life. After all, your tongue lashing when I bumped into you at the Saltstone Grocery Store accidentally a few months ago spurred me into action. “It was an accident, you stupid bitch!” He spat.
Gazing at her lips, he lightly ran the sharp piece of eggshell across them, careful not to cut them, but just to scratch them lightly, giving her the expectedness of more pain to come. “Do you remember that day? He whispered softly.
At Jessica’s nod, he continued. “Oh, I know how much you enjoyed it. Everyone in the store stopped and stared at us when you reached out and grabbed the dozen of eggs I was holding. You snatched them from me, opened them, and then threw them on the floor and walked off like an offended queen with your nose in the air. You were the center of attention and loved every moment of my embarrassment!” He screamed, feeling the blood fill his face and fuel his anger. “That’s the day I realized just what an eggshell could do to a person. I tried to clean up your mess!” He hissed, “and one of the broken shells sliced open my thumb. Right there in front of God and man, I bled like a stuck hog! Luckily, a stock boy came and took over the job and the owner gave me another carton of eggs for free. From that day on, I have experimented with eggshells and what they can do. Hard boiled duck eggs work the best though and even better when they are painted with enamel or nail hardener,” he said, grabbing her head and viciously cutting her lips. Blood ran freely down her terror and pain-wracked face and he savored each tortured expression of pain that clouded her blue eyes.
The storm raged around them. Thunder and lightning intensifying one’s pain, the other’s pleasure, and Rainman knew the time had come. He sought the bag with the eggshells and took out the one he had shaped to sharp perfection. “Now you die in the rain!” He growled ferociously, cutting furiously at her neck where the artery was. Shards of tiny pieces of eggshell stuck in her skin and glistened with each slice of lightning that lit the sky. He kept jabbing and slicing until her artery was severed. Blood gushed from the jagged wound, lightning flashed, thunder rumbled, and he watched her face and stared into those sky blue eyes as the life slipped slowly from her writing body.
“Everyone will remember Rainman,” he whispered, as he carved his name on her forehead.
