Author's Profile
Q: Tell us who is Stephanie Morris?
A: Well I like to think of myself as a unique individual with a few quirks. Writing and and reading books are my biggest passions. I also like to travel, cook, spend time with my family, drink coffee, and eat sour sugar candy. I am a huge sports fan with tennis and football being my favorite, but it all comes back to writing and reading. I am an author. Without my books I feel lost. Still it all comes back to writing. I am one of those fanatics who walks around with a notepad and pen everywhere to brainstorm ideas when they come to me (a quirk). Drives my friends and family crazy but keeps me sane. I hope that with my stories you will find mind-stimulating indulgence that will leave you satisfied but wanting more. A story so captivating you won't want to put it down even when it's over.
Q: Do you have a certain writing style compared to other authors or do you think there is such a thing as a writing style?
A: Well as all other authors, I like to think that my writing style is original, unique, but I'm sure someone out there will say her books remind me of... I believe there is such a thing as writing style. There are some author's that when you pick up their book you know you are going to cry all the way through it, or laugh, or sweat, or sigh, or scream in some cases. Still after reading a few books by an author you kind of know what you are going to get which is why we all have our favorites.
Q: When you first started writing, was it your intent to write interracial romance?
A: Yes and No. When I first started writing my intent was just to write romance. Along the way my stories became interracial romance because I wanted to write what appealed to me. I also knew the interracial market was starting to pick up. Even though I enjoyed what was reading I wanted to add my own flavor to the interracial romance genre.
Q: Do you have a routine when it come to creating your characters for your stories?
A: Yes. I will have to say I am a little too organized when it comes to creating my characters. I am one of those authors who does a character chart. I write out all of the characters physical and personality characteristics. I also write out their background story as well. However, it works out for me because before I put pen to paper I know where the story is going from beginning to end and very rarely does it change. Sometimes my heroines have an edgier persona to them and sometimes they are of a softer essence. But all the time, my heroines are like real women, just trying to make a living and keep on going no matter what challenges life brings her. For my guy the a few things are important. He has to be hot, alpha male, intelligent and ambitious. To me heroine's and hero's are best when I follow this recipe.
Q: Do you have any particular rituals when writing (a special place or time, specific music you listen to, etc.)?
A: Honestly, I don't have any rituals. There isn't a special time or any specific music, lights or candles. However, I am a avid writer so I one of those fanatics who walks around with a notepad and pen everywhere to brainstorm ideas when they come to me. Drives my friends and family crazy but keeps me sane. I will admit that I write all of my stories out long hand. I work full-time at a desk job so staring at the computer and typing after I get home is out. The only exception is when I am finished with the story/series and need to type it up to send it to the publishers. This also helps me when I'm editing because I catch issues when I am typing the story. Sort of a self-editing process. I will say I feel most productive at night so that is when I write the most.
Q: When you’re not writing or juggling your publishing schedule, how do you unwind?
A: I don't think there is ever a time when I'm not writing or juggling my publishing schedule. However, when I do have time to unwind, I do it by spending time with friends and family. I also enjoy sports. I am a big tennis and football fan. Between the two, I always have something to do. Although if my team or the person I'm rooting for is losing it gets me riled up instead of helping me to unwind. I also unwind by listening to music, which usually ends up motivating me to write or being motivation for a book trailer.
Q: Who inspires you?
A: Wow, so many people that I don't know where to begin, but I will do my best to keep it short. I will start with my father who passed away after the release of my first published novel. I'm just glad that he lived long enough to see my dream become a reality. I know he is Heaven looking down and smiling at me.
My mom and brother who I dedicated my first published book to because my mom is a strong woman who taught me to go after my dreams and my brother because he showed me that it was okay to dream big.
Last but not least my sister and grandmother two inspiring women in their own right because of their ability to overcome adversity.
