Jeff stepped into the parlor and met his families worried gazes, slowly he moved over to the window and shoved his hands in his pocket. He drew in a long breath before he spoke. “Chang is sitting with Perry, she seems to be doing fine. I’ve decided that I’m not going to force her into marriage. It’s quite obvious she doesn’t want to marry me and after what’s happened it’s for the best.”
For a few minutes the room remained silent and Jeff swung around at the sound of Tuff’s angry growl. At the sight of the old man’s face he knew that Tuff was furious over his decision. But what else could he do, for Christ sakes? Perry could have been killed because of him.
“By damn it boy. You’ve ruined the gal and she could be carrying ya child. Damn right ya will do the right thing by her.” Tuff sat forward in his chair and glared at Jeff with determination.
“I can’t force her. Hell looked what happened to her when I tried to force her.” Jeff whispered harshly and shook his head. “Can’t you see that if I pressure into marrying me she’ll hate me for it?”
