Diego should have kept his distance, but the girl in the audience affected him in a way he never thought possible. When he stepped on stage, he never imagined he’d find the other half of his heart sitting in the front row, drinking a martini. He’d searched for so long that he’d given up hope of ever finding her, but there she was, right in front of him. He’d tried not to stare, but when her eyes locked on his, he was unable to resist the urge to approach her.
He hadn’t meant to get so close, not as Tarzan, but her body called to him. Her skin was ivory and soft as silk, something he discovered when nuzzling her neck. Her heart rate increased when he’d touched her, and her temperature rose too. It was in that moment, when he took in her scent, that he knew that without a doubt she was his life mate.
Her hair was long, fiery red, and naturally curled. Her brown eyes were like pools of melted chocolate, large like a doe’s, and set behind the longest lashes he’d ever seen. She had a small nose and high cheekbones, but her lips so full and gloss-covered caught his attention most of all. He’d wanted to take her lips right then and there, but he couldn’t, not with a room full of people watching his every move.
Her friend was too drunk to notice the intimacy occurring between them, right under her nose, and he hoped that everyone else in the club viewed it as part of his routine. He’d spoken to her mind, and she understood his words, but he didn’t think she realized his lips hadn’t moved. When she’d asked who he was, he had to give her an answer that would keep her away from Tarzan. He needed her to fall for him, the man behind the mask.
Unable to stop it from happening, thanks to the strong surge of animalistic lust he’d felt pouring off her, he’d changed right there on stage. If not for Pedro’s quick thinking to turn on the fog machines, the audience would have seen his transformation and that would have put him in real trouble. Lucky for him, the people in the club saw it as just another illusion, a part of the show.
When she’d excused herself to the bathroom, he moved swiftly off stage in his tiger form to try to calm down so he could change back. His intention was to get into his dressing room, but the need to see her again was too strong. He hadn’t meant to stare, just to gaze upon her face for a brief moment, but she’d turned around and caught him watching her from behind the curtain.
She’d changed her course, and he rushed to his dressing room, but he didn’t stay behind closed doors for long. He knew the moment she’d managed to get into the storage area, he could smell her in the air, and he was unable to stop himself from seeking her.
Now, he stood with his arms around her, their lips pressed together, and all rational thought was gone. He found himself caught in her scent and their closeness, and if he wasn’t careful, he’d change again, but this time, there would be no stage effects to explain the transformation.
Diego released her and took a step back. Her eyes were wide but not frightened. It was desire he read on her face, not fear.
“What’s your name?” he asked.
“Katana,” she whispered, still out of breath.
He repeated her name in his head. It was different, out of the ordinary, and it suited her. He smiled and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. Her breath came in short wisps, and he watched her chest rise and fall in a rapid motion, making her breasts bounce.
“You should get back to your friend.” Though he wanted to spend more time with her, he wanted to do it as Diego.
She didn’t respond but nodded. Diego took her hand, leading her to the door she first came through. He leaned down and brushed his lips on hers one last time.
“Hasta la proxima vez,” he whispered and opened the door. He waited until she was halfway across the room before he closed the door and pressed his back against it. “What have I done?”
