“Nyah, your boy’s here,” her friend Tracy called out to her.
Nyah rolled her eyes and finished wiping oil from her fingers. She didn’t need Tracy to point out the car that just pulled up. She could see it for herself, and who could miss it? He drove a 1969 Shelby GT500 with a rebuilt engine and dual pistons. The first time she saw it, she loved it. That baby could go from zero to sixty in 3.5 seconds. But more than the sweet ride was the man who owned it. The mechanical body was in pristine condition, just like the hard, masculine body that was unfolding from it now.
Ethan Daniels was sexy as hell. He wore tailored suits—at least that’s how she viewed them. They weren’t cheap. That’s for sure. The material snuggled against his solid form, across his shoulders and big chest. And he smelled good. When she stood near him, it was all she could do not to throw herself into his arms just to breathe the man in.
By now, Tracy knew Ethan was like a fix for her. Every few months he came in for a checkup. Over the last year and a half, she’d never missed his visits, but if she had, she’d have wept like a little girl.
The bell to the office dinged as he came in, and it was her turn at the counter. A dull pain started up in her belly, and her hands were clammy. Nyah watched him stroll toward her and kept her eyes trained on his face. Eyes aqua like the waters she saw in the Bahamas the one time she visited, a strong clean-shaven jaw line, and lips she wanted to explore with kisses like nobody’s business. He drew close to the counter, and even being on the opposite side she had to look up. Six four or five?
“Hello, Nyah. How are you?” he asked in deep, panty-wetting tones.
He knew her name. Of course it was written on her jumper, but since she was staring into his eyes, she knew he hadn’t looked down. He remembered from his previous visits. She almost responded with “Hi, Ethan” but caught herself. She needed to maintain her professionalism or get in trouble with her stickler of a boss. “Hello, Mr. Daniels. I’m fine, thanks. I hope your day is going great so far.”
Grr, I sound like I have a stick up my butt. But he smiled as if she’d said something clever. Ethan didn’t flirt, but he had a way of making her feel like she was something special. The feeling was probably all in her head, but a woman had to enjoy it where she could sometimes.
“It’s pulling to the right a bit. Can you take a look at it?” he asked. The warmth in his gaze drew her in.
“Anything for you,” she murmured, but at his startled expression, she cleared her throat and turned to the computer screen to pull up his account. “I mean, of course. Sounds like you might need an alignment, or it could be the brakes. Let me check on the last time you had them looked at.”
Her fingers flew over the keys typing in his phone number. She was pathetic to know it. Not that dealing with a few regulars didn’t ingrain their info into her head, but most of those others were by address or name. To memorize Ethan’s cell number was too lame. The man probably didn’t know she was a woman outside of general terms like the fact that her voice was high and her name had a feminine ring to it. The work clothes all the mechanics wore was a bland blue with no style, and her boss didn’t allow any jewelry while on the job. If she at least had a big butt and big boobs, that might stand out, but she didn’t. Nyah was built like her mother with a slender figure, and not until she met Ethan did she care one way or another. Now it felt like a curse.
She printed off the work order for him to sign and slipped it across the counter. When he reached out to straighten the paper, his fingers brushed hers. Nyah’s heart raced, and she chewed her bottom lip. Pure desire for him brought her body to life, and she jerked back, keeping her eyes on the sheet.
“Sorry about that,” he whispered.
She looked up at him trying to read his expression, but it was impossible. Ethan had always been kind, but he never gave any indication that he was attracted to her. Tracy pushed her to make the first move by inviting him to dinner, but she knew if he was offended or turned off, he could report her to her boss, and she could get fired. That was a big risk. Something told her a man like Ethan wouldn’t be so unkind even if he wasn’t interested, but she was still scared.
