Amanda stared into his green eyes, searching his face for any sign that he was lying, but his handsome features only made her thudding heart beat faster. It had to be in fear, though, because she would never have any feelings for this man. His jet-black hair curled around his shirt collar and even though he was slim, he was heavily muscled and she knew he worked out. “Why would you take care of Tracy? What is wrong with her?”
“If you would have kept in touch after running away, then you would know. I’ll let her fill you in on the details and if you give me your keys, I’ll get your luggage out of the car.”
Amanda handed him the keys to the trunk, and walked back with him as he opened it. She reached inside and grabbed her laptop. “I only brought one suitcase, since I don’t plan on staying here long.”
“You should have brought more, but if you need anything, I can run into town and get it for you.”
“I’m not staying here, Thorne, and that’s all there is to it.”
“We’ll see,” he replied, slamming the trunk lid shut. Come on, it’s getting damp out here and you might catch your death in that little hot pink halter top.”
Amanda was about to reply, but snapped her mouth shut and walked up to the door. She reached out for the door handle, but hesitated. How could she enter this house of horrors once again and just as darkness descended in its full vengeance? She jumped as Thorne reached past her, turned the handle, and pushed the door open. She gasped when she saw Tracy standing in the foyer. “Tracy!” She ran to her sister and wrapped her arms around her. “Oh, Tracy! I am so sorry I didn’t keep in touch with you! How are you? Let me look at you!” Amanda leaned back and held Tracy at arm’s length. “You’re pregnant!”
“With the Demon’s seed!”
Amanda gasped. “What?” She asked, not sure she had heard right. Then she noticed the deep, dark smudges beneath Tracy’s dark brown eyes and how her long, brown hair hung limp around her shoulders that were so slim. So unlike the chubby Tracy she had been when Amanda had run away. “Why would you say that?”
“I don’t want this child but no one will let me get rid of it!”
Amanda watched as a woman walked in from the living room, took Tracy’s hand, and led her up the stairs. “Who is she and what is wrong with Tracy?”
