Nik Epperstein’s alpha lost his mate two years ago and took an evil witch as his new bride. Ever since then, Eli’s leadership has become violent, bordering on insane. When Eli attacks him, Nik’s healing powers mysteriously vanish. He can’t defend himself, nor protect the wolf he secretly loves. Only through the help of a foul-mouthed witch and an overly-dramatic dwarf will he save her – but their assistance comes at a price. Caroline has tried for two years to lure Nik into her bed and can’t understand his hesitation. After all, she senses their mating bond loud and clear. Then Nik disappears. She confronts her father who tells her Nik is dead, and she’s next on his chopping block. Without Nik to protect her, she flees the pack and is kidnapped by a man half her size. Reunited at last, the young wolves have one last chance to ignite their bond. But love must wait when battle looms. Eli and his wife attack, and aren’t above using dirty tricks to win. If Nik and Caroline survive the battle, the dwarf and his wife will require them to make a promise that will change their lives forever…

He was a threat to the pack. So I destroyed him then left him for dead. I’m sorry, Caroline. It had to be done.”

Stomach twisting, she hugged herself tight. The pain of knowing her mate was gone forever stole the breath from her lungs, made her heartbeat sluggish and defeated. After all this, after waiting so long for him to show one little sign of love for her, she’d lose him? The horror of an empty life lay ahead. She’d never be able to love another.

Another howl split the night, and this one stopped abruptly, cut off in midstream. Her sorrow turned to panic. Was that Nik’s death cry or can he still be saved?

Eli let go of her, placed his hands on his hips, and settled his weight on his heels. “There’s nothing you can do, Caroline. It’s over. Nik will soon die of his injuries. His body will never heal.”

“What have you done to him?” She screamed out the words around rising bile in her throat, claws forming where her fingernails had been. Inside, her wolf demanded release. She struggled to restrain it. But if she attacked her father, she would surely die, and if she shifted and tried to escape, her father would only follow and run her down. What he would do to her, she didn’t want to find out. Caroline choked down fury and fear. “Where is Nik? Where is he, Father?”

He stood an arm’s length from her. “Believe me, I know how terrible you feel and there’s only one thing I can do to help. I promise your death will be swift and painless.”
