The dark look on his face made her heartbeat quicken. She couldn't decide what he wanted. "So, do you need my help?" The room felt too hot. She debated on whether or not to take off the sweater. Then with one more look at Mark in the reflection she decided to leave it on.
And he didn't answer her question.
She swallowed before asking again, "Would you like to start dinner?"
"I'd love to go straight to dessert."
She grinned. Okay, this was too much. Perhaps he wanted to make up for earlier; that was fine. But not right now. She didn't need his pity, or his strange sense of chivalry. Turning around, she picked up a pillow from one of the chairs and threw it at him. "C'mon, now, stop that."
He caught the pillow in midair and set it on the couch. "Fine, I'll stop, for now. But you look warm in that sweater. I wish you'd take it off."
"I think I'll leave it on, thank you," she answered.
He turned on a heel and left the room. And just in time. Jennifer didn't think the heat from her body could be contained much longer.
Why did he have to pick now to act all flirty and sexy? She shook her head as she took off the sweater and laid it over the chair. Not because he'd asked, but because she felt much too hot to keep it on.
