When the door chime sounded they both spun around to look. Summer whispered, “Wow, who’s that?”

Angel didn’t know but he agreed with her appraisal.

“Gabriel Loveday?” the man in the business suit asked in a serious tone.

“Yes. Detective Sharpe?”

“Yes. Hello, Mr. Loveday.”

“Call me Angel, please.” Angel reached out to shake his extended hand.

“Angel,” the detective said shyly.

“And this is my assistant, Summer Thompson.” Angel gestured towards her.

As she shook the handsome detective’s hand, she teased, “Hubba hubba! You can investigate me any day of the week.”

“Behave yourself, young lady,” Angel chided. “Forgive her, detective. She’s just a kid.”

“Hey!” Summer pretended to pout.

“We’ll be next door if you need us. Okay, Summer?” Angel waited for her nod. He escorted the detective to the door. “This way, detective.”

“Call me, Billy, please.”

“Okay, Billy.” Angel followed him out into the breezy ocean air. They walked the few paces to the café and Billy opened the door for them. As they stood at the counter together Angel asked, “What would you like, Billy?”

“Coffee, please, Angel.”

Angel shouted to Mary, “Two coffees, Mary, please?”

“Right away, Angel!” She waved to him.

“Have a seat, Billy.” Angel directed him to a small table and waited as the detective sat down, opening his jacket button. “Mary will bring them over to us.”

“All right.”

Sitting across from him, Angel estimated this handsome man to be close to his own age. Fantastically fit, a full head of dark black hair and brilliant blue eyes. Angel didn’t want to salivate over him, but it was getting hard to prevent. As Billy’s jacket parted and the shoulder holster emerged, creating a powerful image, Angel almost creamed his jeans at the excitement he was feeling. When the hell was the last time he got a hard-on from just looking at a man? 1985?

Billy took a pad and pen from out of his jacket pocket, appearing all business for the moment. Right before he began asking Angel questions, Mary brought over their coffees, setting out sugar and cream for them.

“Thanks, sweetheart.” Angel winked at her.

“My pleasure, dear.”

After she left, Angel stirred some milk into his cup. “Fire away,” he smiled.

“Right.” Billy read over his notes. “When did all of this start? Is it recent?”

“Yes, very recent. Last Friday was the first time. Someone left my film Filth on the counter of the shop.”

“Left it and ran? Did you see anyone?”

“No. It was before we opened. Summer came here to get us a coffee and I was in the office. We didn’t have the door locked. I heard the door chime. Twice, actually. I heard it twice. I thought it was Summer coming back, but it wasn’t. Someone obviously just hurried in, left it on the counter, and took off.”

Billy nodded, writing notes. But all the while he was remembering that movie. Oh, yes, the first of the Plimpton/Loveday partnership. The debut of one of the most fantastic gay icons in American history. Who didn’t know his name back then? Have a poster of him on their wall? Thumb hungrily through the naughty magazines for a glimpse of his cock? That famous, enormous Loveday cock. And look at him now. Billy did a discreet once over of this incredible man’s face, his long straight hair, and tight muscular upper body. Still gorgeous. Absolutely gorgeous.

Billy crossed his legs under the table as his cock throbbed. “Right. So, what do you think? A crazed fan?”

“Christ. I hope not. I had enough of that in the Eighties. I swear I had no peace.”

“I can imagine. You were one heck of a sex symbol back then.”

Angel stopped mid sip, staring at him.

At the intensity of Angel’s gaze, Billy sensed a faux pas. His face went crimson. Lifting his cup to his mouth, Billy tried to hide behind it.

“You know my movies?” Angel asked in surprise.

“Yeah. Of course.”

“How old are you? If you don’t mind me asking.”

“No, I don’t mind. Thirty-nine.” Billy wondered what Angel was thinking. His expression was unreadable.

“You’re in damn good shape for thirty-nine.”

Billy’s face blushed deeply at the compliment from a man he idolized, he replied, “Ditto.”

“Thank you, detective.” Angel smiled sweetly. “Ah, any other questions?”

Feeling carried away at the moment by their flirty banter, Billy blurted out, “Yeah, you want to get dinner later?” then felt like a complete idiot.

To Billy’s astonishment, Angel grinned wickedly and replied, “Yes.”

“Wow. Great.” Billy cleared his throat and set his cup down, missing the saucer and awkwardly causing a clatter.

Leaning closer to Billy from across the table, Angel asked, “So, you liked my movies?”

“Fucking loved them.”

“I can’t tell you how flattered I am.”

“Good. Very good.” Trying to get under control, Billy rubbed his own cock discreetly under the table as it began aching from the excitement.

Angel caught the gesture. Maybe something good will come out of this horrible mess. “I have to admit, Billy, I don’t usually like to discuss my past with anyone. I feel embarrassed to have done those films. I sometimes wish I hadn’t done them, or that they would vanish off the planet and I didn’t have to hear about them anymore.”

“No way.” Billy shook his head. “That’s absurd.”

“I’m serious. I’ve gotten so much flack for them. You know my parents disowned me?” Angel noticed the detective shifting in his chair again. Dealing with a hard-on? Angel wondered.

“That’s unfair. I really think they were out of line, Angel. Look, maybe some of those pseudo-religious-Bible-thumpers thought they were obscene, but you had one hell of a fan club, gorgeous.”

Blinking his eyes in shock, Angel echoed, “Gorgeous?”

When it appeared Billy was mortified by his own comment, Angel tried to comfort him. “Hey, don’t look so petrified. I’m loving every minute of this.”

“Thank fuck. I didn’t want you to complain to my lieutenant that I was sexually harassing you.”

“Don’t worry. It’s a welcome advance for a change.” Angel wanted to touch him. The animal magnetism of this police detective was irresistible.

“I can’t believe you’re coming to dinner with me.”
