Quinn Bridges has almost everything a man could ask for. He is healthy, his cattle station is doing well, and he just signed a deal of a life time. After a chance encounter with a young man at the pub, he thinks perhaps he has met the final missing piece to his life.
Luc Walker has spent most of his life proving himself to everyone around him. Meeting Quinn changes that as the older man has no idea who Luc really is. Desperate to not change how Quinn sees him, Luc keeps his true identity from him.
But when things fall apart and Quinn discovers Luc’s secret, will he be able to convince Quinn that nothing is more important to him than loving his cowboy?
Be Warned: m/m sex
Taking the offered forms, Quinn ran his eyes over it. Everything looked as it did this morning, but he wasn’t stupid enough to just sign away. Eyes flicking to the younger man, he said, “You may as well get comfy, I’m not just signing this.”
Luc nodded, taking a seat next to him. “Of course. Please, take your time.”
“So Walker sent you after me, huh? Must be nice.”
Quinn looked back up at the other man. “To have someone to do all the running around for you.”
Ryder chuckled behind his beer. “Bet his kids haven’t had to work a day in their life given the money that man rakes in.”
Quinn snorted. “Would you if you could have everything handed to you?”
“I’m not Mr. Walker’s goffer if that’s what you mean. And no, his children aren’t spoiled little rich kids,” Luc suddenly bit out.
Raising his head again, Quinn was surprised to see the angry look on the younger man’s face. “No harm intended. Just pointing out that most wouldn’t put in the effort if they didn’t have to.”
Luc still seemed to bristle at that. “Well, the Walkers aren’t like most people.”
He nodded, accepting the man’s word. “Fair enough. I suppose you would know better than I would.”
Luc’s head swung back to him, paling slightly. “What?”
He frowned. “I just meant since you work for him.”
“Oh, right. Yeah.”
Quinn had a moment where he pondered whether Luc could possibly be having an affair with the older Mr. Walker, but immediately cast that thought aside. Walker was dead straight. Shrugging off the weird vibe, Quinn continued to flick through the documents, one page at a time, studying it carefully. All the while trying to ignore the furtive glances Luc kept shooting him. A small grin tipped his lips. It had been a while since someone had paid him so much attention. Maybe, just maybe, he could bend his own rules. It’s not like spending time romantically with someone who worked at Walker’s company would directly affect the business. Hell, Walker probably didn’t even know this guy’s name.
“Why don’t you have a drink with us?” he offered. “My shout.”
Luc blinked at him in surprise. “Um, yeah, sure. Thank you.”
“Extra Dry good for you?”
Gesturing for the barmaid to come over he ordered another round for the three of them. He smiled as he and Luc kept up a casual conversation, even long after Quinn had signed the papers. Ryder left them to it fairly quickly after he spied a blonde who had been giving him the eye all evening. Quinn thought that if nothing else, at least he got a little company with a man who clearly found him attractive. And wasn’t it just sad that he’d settle for something as simple as that.
Hmmm, maybe Ryder was right...he needed to get laid.
