Holly went to stand in front of the fire, and Noah followed her and took hold of her hand.

"Care to dance?" He turned the volume up before turning back to her. The sound of soothing jazz echoed around the room.

"I haven't danced in years," she said.

Wrapping his arms around her waist, he drew her close. "It's not something I do that often," he replied.

The lamps glowed at either side of the room, but it was the glittering lights on the fresh Christmas tree that gave the room a magical glow. He loved this time of year.

She slipped her arms around his neck, her fingers gliding through his hair. Her scent was delicious, and he wanted to delve his nose into her neck. Her firm breasts were warm against his chest, and he couldn't stop himself from nuzzling the skin beneath her ear.

"So we're agreed that we are not experienced in dancing," Holly said.

"I didn't say that. You haven't seen my moves on the dance floor yet," Noah joked.

She laughed; he loved the sound. Watching as her head fell back with genuine amusement made him more comfortable than he'd felt with a woman in a long time.

His hand smoothed up and down her back, then he slipped his fingers beneath the hem of her sweater to touch her silky, soft skin. They were hardly moving, their bodies were aligned, and she looked up at him with a twinkle in her eye.

"Care to prove that?" she asked, her lips twitching.

"Not enough room here for what I can do." He laughed.

"Guilty." He chuckled.

Noah wondered if now would be the right time to ask her a question that had worried him. He'd heard a whisper that she'd been ill. Although he didn't mix much with the old crowd, Mike and Jerry, his old school friends, were his squash partners in London, and they'd mentioned it to him.

Mike was Suzy's brother, she'd worked at Snowdrop House for two years and she'd said something about Holly having to visit the hospital. When he'd tried to question Suzy earlier her answer had been that if he wanted to know he had to ask Holly.

He didn't want to ruin the atmosphere, but he really wanted to know what was wrong.

"Holly, have you been ill?"

Drawing in a breath, she pressed her fingers to his lips. "No more talking."

The flash of pain that crossed her face worried him, and he tried to speak again. "I was just—"

She interrupted him before he had a chance to get the words out. "No. Noah, you agreed to this, one night—one night of great sex. That doesn't mean having to know about each other's lives."
