Cooper Hardwick is stuck between a rock and a hard place. On one side is his greedy, sanity-challenged Uncle Pete, who holds a dark secret over Cooper’s head. On the other is Sheriff Nate Tanner, the deliciously handsome lawman who wants to bring his uncle and the goings on at the Circle J Ranch down.
Cooper can’t help but to seduce the sheriff, but he unknowingly aids his uncle in blackmailing the man. Nate can’t forgive what Cooper has done and tosses him out into the night without ever telling Cooper what he’d done to deserve it.
When Pete starts killing off Mack Maitland’s cattle, Cooper knows the man has crossed a line there might not be any coming back from. To save the Triple M, and all the men who call it home, Cooper has to work alongside the man who shattered him a year before. Can he and Nate see through all the lies, all the misunderstanding, and find their way back to one another before Pete explodes into more violence?
Nate rushed to the door at the sound of the pounding. Whipping the door open, he nearly groaned when he saw who was there waiting for him.
“What’re you doing here?” he barked.
Cooper’s slight smile faded. “Don’t sound so excited to see me.”
Nate was excited alright. He’d been excited since before he’d left Pete’s place. His body was covered in sweat from the fruitless jerkoff session he’d just been engaged in. After having Cooper’s hand on him, his own had been sorely lacking in getting him where he needed to be. He’d nearly zipped his hard cock into his pants while trying to get to the door.
Cooper’s gaze took in his bare chest still coated from his workout. “Did you run all the way back home?”
“Something like that.”
Cooper looked past Nate’s shoulder and into the house. “You gonna invite me in?”
“Why should I?” Nate wanted to drag the man inside and take what he wanted but there was no having that.
Cooper pulled his bag off his shoulder and tossed it at Nate. Nate grabbed it and looked down. “What’s this?”
“Take me inside and I’ll show you how it’s used.”
Nate opened the leather ties and peeked inside. He nearly moaned then and there, his breathing coming in a thick gulp. “Who said I wanted to know how it’s used,” he grated out, trying to ignore the desire threatening to make him combust.
Cooper stepped closer, within inches of Nate. “I haven’t laid with another man in seven years. For the first time in that long, I want someone so desperately I can barely think of anything else. And when I look into your eyes, I see that same longing reflected back at me.”
Nate tried to look unaffected, but knew he was failing miserably. “You’ve got it all wrong.”
“No, I don’t. So are you going to let me in or not?”
