Author's Bio

I just started a new job, so my days lately have been a little off. I work in Baton Rouge with a private surgeon as a scrub tech, so my day starts really early. Thank goodness for coffee!

I am the typical writer who started reading romance books at a young age, started writing my own stories, and likes to get lost in my own little world I create in my head. My inspiration comes from everywhere and I like to change up what I write to make sure my stories don't stagnate. So just when you think you have me pegged, I throw something different at you!

I've had people close to me criticize being an erotica/romance author, but I absolutely love happy endings and can't imagine writing anything else. I think if there was more love and romance in the world there would be a lot less killing and intolerance. For me there is nothing more noble than people in love rescuing each other.

Author's Profile

Q. What writers have inspired you?

A. I remember reading a Judith Tarr novel and being blown away by her prose. I saw the difference between my work and a master storyteller and it pushed me to be better. I also admire authors like JK Rowling and Stephanie Meyer. They are able to captivate their audience, leaving them salivating for more. But there are so many...Charlaine Harris, Lisa Kleypas, Maya Banks, Lisa McMann. Each author inspires me in different ways.

Q. How do you deal with writer's block?

A. I don't push myself or my characters. Since I don't outline my stories, if I don't know where to take the storyline I back off and let my mind rest. Usually, as I lay down to sleep, I open my imagination and ask, "What would I do in the situation?" and the answer comes to me. Sometimes, though, this can take a few days, but I never panic because my characters tell me their story.

Q. Knowing BLP is inspired by your personal experience, was there a real 'Kiley Laurent'?

A. Kiley is my perfect male fantasy; I wrote him larger than life. I'm sure somewhere out there a real Kiley does exist and the woman or man who has him is very lucky!

Q. What experiences in BLP are ones you've had?

A. I had a friend who wore a size zero! It was awful shopping with her! And all the places in Paris that Penny saw, like the Louvre and the Eiffel Tower. The Chauteau, the picnic in Beaujolais wine region, and the underground club called The Cave are real places. The unisex bathroom was by far the oddest!

Q. Do you plan on writing only erotica or do you plan on branching into other genres?

A. No matter what I write, romance will always be present. I wish the world ran on love; there's just not enough of it. I have no set genre when a story comes to me. The book I'm almost finished with now is an erotic fantasy/futuristic novel and then I have another contemporary playing through my mind. I think it's good to go in different directions so the work doesn't stagnate.

Q. Have you lived anywhere else besides France?

A. France has been the only foreign country I've lived in, but I've been fortunate to have traveled extensively throughout Europe, plus New Zealand and Australia. However, I've lived in many states, most recently moving from Southern California to Louisiana. I hope this is it, though, because it's getting harder each time!

Q. What is your process? Do you use a computer, typewriter, pad and pencil? Coffee shops, office? What best suits your purposes when sitting down to write?

A. I love walking around with my MP3 and music cranked up in my ears. I usually find a song and play it over and over as characters come to life in my head. Then I go home and use my laptop, writing out everything I've just imagined. I also edit as I go along. The worst is when words come to me as I'm trying to fall asleep and I know that I won't be able to rest until I write them down. Sometimes being a writer is frustrating...wonderful and annoying at the same time. I'm very blessed with the ability to put a story together. In my opinion it's the best of all the arts.
