Jana Downs lives in the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina with three cats, one dog, several dozen fish, and a very understanding partner-in-crime who hates to read but makes exceptions for her stories.

You can usually find her either watching bad reality TV, buying way too many books on Amazon, or dreaming up another man or two to occupy her time because life is good but several drop-dead gorgeous nonexistent men is just better.

Q: Where does the inspiration for your stories come from?

A: Honestly I am so eclectic it’s hard to point out a definite source. It’s sort of like lightning. It just hits me and then I’ve got to write it or lose it. My family and I affectionately call this my Muse. She just sort of smacks me with whatever new idea I’ve had cooking in my psyche and then off I go.

Q: How much do you write in a typical day?

A: Well that depends on a lot of factors. I’d like to say that I spend hours and hours every day writing, but that’s just not the reality. I gorge. Some days I won’t write a lick and then I’ll binge and write for two weeks straight. Since I get very little sleep during that time, I write at odd hours and at odd times. I’m a little sporadic. There really isn’t such a thing as a typical writing day for me.

Q: What is the hardest part about writing for you?

A: The hardest part for me is keeping the entire scene in one character’s point of view. I am a head-hopper. I want to know what everyone in the scene is feeling, thinking, experiencing, etc. So it’s really a challenge for me to confine the point of view to just one character at a time.

Q: Who are you favorite authors?

A: If I gave you the entire list I’d be writing for days. To name a few in the romance genre that I really enjoy, I’d have to say Joey Hill, Stormy Glenn, Joyee Flynn, J.L. Langley, JR Ward, Laurel K. Hamilton, Evangeline Anderson, and Jez Morrow. That’s just the short list. There are many, many more I could add.

Q: If you could bring any of your characters to life, which one would it be and why?

A: That’s actually a really difficult question. Of course I’d want to bring all of them to life and become their deity so that I could have a gaggle of lovely men loving other men (and me of course) but since I can only pick one I’ll try to pick just one. Out of the Ravyns I’d have to say I’d want to bring Allasandro to life. He’s funny and he’s the most laid-back out of the bunch. Definitely the guy I’d want to chill with and the one I wouldn’t kick out of bed for getting crumbs in the sheets.
