I think this author is a good storyteller and would have given this book a 4, but the editing was terrible and I blame Siren for that. I know most authors these days use voice to text software but it is the editor’s job to fix all the mistakes the software makes before the book is released. I counted several dozen mistakes with grammar and incorrect words for the context (homonyms). That is why authors use a publisher like Siren, for editing and marketing and production. The story was okay but it was a bit disconcerting to the reader to be expected to know who a lot of characters were in a book that was listed as the first in a series. At times, I felt like the new kid in school who doesn’t know anyone but everyone thinks I do.
