As this series has continued the mates seem to become more and more child like in some ways. Cecil fought for his right to make his own food in the first book but know sneaks onto the internet to look up a word. At the community center it doesn't seem like volunteer work anymore.

The tri-omega not being the smallest was an interesting twist. I liked the story line. It doesn't seem to get us any closer to why so many tri-omegas are being born.
