“The guys are here to put in the new pool you wanted,” Shadow said as I padded into the kitchen one morning. I grunted as a reply. They knew not to talk to me until after I’d had coffee.

“Is he normally like that or is this because of all the drama last night?” Bren, Horse’s mate, asked quietly. He was referring to the sick fuck we’d helped trap for the police since they didn’t have anyone to go undercover at the last minute.

We owned an old pre-Civil War mansion. The entire bottom floor was set up for servants’ quarters, storage, and whatnot. I’d wanted a pool forever but never asked until recently. I’d waited until everyone else found their space in the house because I wasn’t sure we’d still have room.

All eleven of my friends had immediately agreed. They each had a space of their own and I never claimed one. I read a lot, and I didn’t need a special room for that when we already had a library. But I loved to swim. Horse got lost in his studio, Flower in his workroom, but I kept going to the park district when I needed to think because that was the closest pool.

“Come on, QB, you can do better than that,” one guy in a hard hat sneered at a gorgeous man who had my cock perking right up. They were cutting away the part of the foundation in the middle of the largest room where the pool would go. “Can’t handle a jackhammer? Pussy.”

“No problem,” he said with a shrug and dropped my hand. “We’re not all that busy in fall and winter given the weather in Chicago. We do mostly renovations this time of year.”

“Nothing, man,” he sputtered and cursed under his breath. “Forgive my idiot crew. They just like to tease Justice because he’s the new guy.”

“Uh-huh.” I wasn’t buying that for a moment. I glanced over my shoulder at Justice, who had his mouth hanging open. “What does QB stand for?”

He glanced at his boss, turning even redder. “Please, just let it go. I need this job.”

“Honey, you’ll keep this job, and we have several other renovation projects that this house needs,” I said as I went over to him, putting some extra sway in my hips. I heard a few snickers, and the owner groaned. “I won’t ask you again though. What does QB stand for?”

“Queer boy,” he whispered and looked down at the ground. “They call me queer boy all the time but QB when we’re on jobs.”

“Do they now?” I snarled and turned to the other men. I whipped out my cell phone and called Horse. A few of them stared at me with hate while the owner looked like he was going to shit kittens. “Hello, brother. It seems we have a problem with the construction workers. Is your husband still home or did he go into work?”

“Nope, he’s got the day off,” Horse said warily.

“Wonderful,” I replied with an evil smile. “Would you kindly have him come down here? I need his expertise.”

“On our way.”
