Matthew and Luna don’t have a good history.
When they were teenagers, Matthew made promises and broke her heart. He had to let her go and watch her walk away. For years, he’s watched from a distance, knowing he is the one for her. Not anyone else.
There is no one else for Luna. Boyfriends never worked out. There was only ever Matthew. Just him, and she hates it. She isn’t a doormat, pining for a guy who is never going to love her.
So, why is she back in Vale Valley? Why did she quit the life she had to come back home?
Matthew’s not going to let this chance pass him by. He let her go once and regretted it. Now he’s going to work to keep her.
Luna wants to be with him, but how can they make it work? They have so much history, but every second spent with him feels right.
He’s the love of her life.
She’s the love of his life.
Can they make it work—or will they walk away?

He was a fucking freak because he’d looked forward to that time. “I was a dick to her about the time, but there was nowhere else I wanted to be. Kind of fucking scared me.” He shook his head. “Of course, there were other girls. You know the ones, they were happy to get on their knees, open their mouths. Easy. They weren’t hard. They wanted to be with a biker’s kid. The next best thing to them. I was an asshole. There was this beautiful, sweet, kind, amazing girl. She had the sexiest laugh. She found my dirty jokes funny. That was a surprise. I figured she’d be a bit of a prude.” He smiled just thinking about it. “She told me I was worth something. Told me that I could go far. All I wanted was the club and her.”

“Then you got her?”

“I got her, and you know what I did?” Matthew asked.

“This is kind of self-explanatory. You guys aren’t together, so I’m guessing you were a giant dick to her and you lost her.”

“Exactly. I totally fucking lost her.”

“How?” Kid asked.

“I was fucking freaked. We had sex, and I thought it was the most amazing thing I had ever felt. She was everything. I was her first. I didn’t last. I was a screw-up, and afterward, I panicked. When that happened, I, er, I…” He rubbed the back of his head. “I went and fucked a couple of other girls.”

“Damn,” Kid said. “That’s cold.”

“Yeah, it was cold. I hurt her, and now, there is a chance she’s going to move on. I’ve seen her with a couple of guys. Just kissing, but that was hard. I didn’t want to see her with anyone else, and now she’s back.”

“You’ve got to win her,” Kid said.

“I’m going to try.” He was ready now. No more time for fucking up or being afraid. He’d already been on the receiving end of that, and he knew how it ended. It wasn’t in any way how he wanted it to end.

Kid cleared his throat, and Matthew looked toward him. He was staring at the doors.

Matthew turned and saw Luna standing in the doorway. She held her keys in a death grip.

“Luna,” he said.

“Matthew.” She glanced toward Kid.

“Kid,” he said, getting to his feet. “Matthew wasn’t wrong. You’re beautiful.”

Luna’s mouth opened and closed. She didn’t look sure as to what to say or do. “Er, thank you, I think.”

He winked at her. “This is my cue to leave. Don’t be a stranger, Luna.”

Matthew wanted to hurt him. Luna was his.

“Don’t think about him.”

“What— How? Why?” Luna asked.

Matthew frowned. “I’m a little confused. I don’t know what I’ve done.”

“Don’t know what you’ve done? Are you like for real right now?”

“What?” he asked.

She growled. Her voice went deeper, and he could only imagine that she was trying to imitate him. “Luna, I’m being serious. You haven’t— I was a mess back then. It wasn’t good. I know that. I can make that up to you.” She was back to sounding like herself. “What was that?”

This was better. Much better.

“It’s exactly what it means.”

“Why?”

“Why?” he asked.

“Stop repeating everything I say, Matthew. Why would you say something like that?” She nibbled on her lip and tilted her head to the side. She’d done this when they were studying, and he found it so freaking adorable.

Matthew closed the distance between them. Luna took a step back, then another, and another, until her back hit the wall.

He pressed his hands to either side of her head. “Luna, you’re a clever woman, but I will be straight with you. Our first time together sucked for you. You were in pain. I wasn’t good. I’m better now, and what I’m offering you is the chance of a good fuck.”

Her eyes flashed, and he watched as she licked her lips. There was interest there. Interest and something else—need.

Luna wanted him, but she was fighting him. “It doesn’t mean anything.”

“It doesn’t have to mean anything. We can have a good time.” It was a complete lie. To Matthew, it would mean something. “I’m offering you a chance for us to have some fun. No strings attached. You, me, and sex. That’s all.”

She put her hands on his chest and pushed him away. “I’ve got to go.”

Matthew didn’t want to let her go. Sinking his fingers into her hair, he pulled her in close and slammed his lips down on hers. He kissed her, giving her a taste of what was to come if only she’d let him.

“Think about me,” he said.
