4.5 HEADSTONES: "Now this novella is what I consider the very definition of a steamy, quick bedroom read. The plot is used to push the characters into steamy situations—but with the fantastic added fact that the plot could hold up on its own with or with the sizzle. That’s my favorite! To be able to enjoy both the hot romance and story of the book is so important to me. I almost feel like Corrales could have just continued the story and made a 300 page novel; in fact, I do hope she turns this into a series because, frankly, I’m still rooting for David and Sindriel (Ha! If they got together, that’d be hilarious). Plus, I don’t believe we’ve heard the last of Phaedra, not to mention Ren/Vain Glory’s mother needs way more air time; she is hilariously ruthless. Okay, so onto the story. The two fall in bed pretty quickly, but for both of them, they are hoping for a one night stand to satisfy their own “demons.” Alexine (love the name) is trying to forget about James, the man she thought was going somewhere until he got engaged to another woman, and Ren, a half demon (the other half is Vain Glory, and yes, they are a separate entity) who is fighting against his very nature and dark desires. Unfortunately/fortunately for them, it turns out it’s much more than just a one night stand. What I also loved about this beginning was that it was the man/demon who ended up getting… I’m not sure, love sick?…without his mate. While Alexine missed him, he was the one who was near death and she had to save him. In fact, she saves him a couple more times—yay for strong heroines! There is much more to the story: one of Ren’s closest friends get kidnapped, there’s a full demon who’s interested in Alexine, Jame’s fiancé is a terror, they have to go to the Demon world to find out who has David…I loved it all. And yes, throughout the entire novella, Ren and Vain Glory had their wicked way with Alexine in all kinds of ways, in all places. I loved the distinction between Vain Glory and Ren and the way they were when they were… errmmm… with her. You will enjoy this if you love demons, if you like strong heroines, and if you really, really like bedroom scenes that are unabashedly and unapologetically in your face and at times a bit naughty.
