Love's Slow Burn (MFM) by Alexa Aaby (Published by: Siren-BookStrand, Inc. )
$3.99
Categories: Contemporary, Menage a Trois/Quatre

This reviewer's rating: 4 - Good

Really good point first: Alexa's erotic writing is splendidly no holds barred. She obviously enjoys describing two gorgeous men and a beautiful woman getting it on and, in both this and her first book, delights in being extremely explicit. It may be sexist but, as a man, that is worth the price of the book alone... But ... both books have almost no story. Granted two men f*ck one woman repeatedly is a story of sorts, and it's sure as hell better than the desperately overused device of a crazed stalker/embittered business rival/jealous 'other' woman who throws the lovers together, but Casey, Jake and Dean do little *more* than meet and then f*ck and it's difficult to care about them as characters. Of course I look forward to the next book - and will buy it eagerly - but I really want to care how the story turns out, not just take pleasure in the sex scenes... Deal, Alexa?

Sweet Water Wedding: Sharing Shannon (MFM) by Dawn Forrest (Published by: Siren-BookStrand, Inc. )
$6.99
Categories: Contemporary, Menage a Trois/Quatre, Western/Cowboys

This reviewer's rating: 5 - Outstanding

This is how menage stories should be, but so seldom are... Shannon is deliciously sweet and sexy, and obviously smitten by her two lovers, Luke McKay and James Ryden. But that doesn't mean she immediately gets down and dirty, no-holes barred, with both of them: everyone takes the time to get to know each other, both love and passion grow organically, centered round Shannon's best friend Rachael's wedding to the super-sexy Joshua Ryden ('Sweet Water Vet - Taking Rachael'), James's brother. Ms Forrest obviously takes pleasure in describing and carefully building the interaction between the two girlfriends as much as she does Shannon's menage and that is a major plus. Particuarly when the relationship between Rachael and Joshua is deliciously erotic and described in very hot detail. And when Shannon finally does get it on with her two hunky lovers...? A-mazing and refreshingly free of cliche. So, a wonderfully erotic book and, hopefully, it won't be too long before Ms Forrest produces another chapter in the 'Sweet Water' story.

Not really fair to give a book a lower rating because there is a problem reconciling author independence and reader expectation but that's what happens. The heroine is voluptuous, desirable and fun; the men handsome and lusty so the reader's expectation for erotic fireworks is high. Which means the sex scenes, particularly the ultimate two-men-loving-her-at-the-same-time, should have set the pages on fire. But they don't. There's a coolness, and the last scene is over almost before it's begun which, considering the number of times the beauty of the heroine's ass is described, is a great shame. If this is the first in a series, I'd love it if Ms Knight would consider turning up the heat and lingering on the good stuff a little more in her next book...
