Ashlei D. Hawley

Average Rating:

My name is Ashlei Hawley and I love everything about being a writer. I write in my sleep and chase plots through my dreams. Not a day goes by where I find myself with peace and quiet in my mind. Characters are always talking, and I wouldn't trade their voices or stories for a less stressful mental environment. I have a young son, named for my favorite character in my most cherished book series. I believe it's only right I combined the two loves of my life by choosing a name for my child from the world of writing. I love my readers like family and dearly hope I can cultivate an inspiring and lasting relationship with everyone who enjoys my work.

Q: Which authors inspire your writing?

A: I am a huge fan of Dean Koontz, who is a great person as well as a powerful writer. I was first inspired to write romance/erotica because I fell in love with works from both Anne Rice and Laurell K. Hamilton.

Q: What is your favorite line from any of your books?

A: One of the lines that still rings in my mind from Seared is, "He didn’t know if the weather was directly affected by how he was feeling, but he felt darkly entwined with the storm’s fury." I believe this line resonates with how powerful a character Tyler is and the depth of the emotions he feels. It's always good when a line can make its author shiver!

Q: How much time do you devote to writing on average?

A: I feel like I'm always doing something for my writing, whether it's daydreaming, writing by hand, marketing or actually typing on a book. It takes months to finish a first draft. If I could, I'd devote at least two hours per day to be as productive as I'd like. As is, I'd say it's about ten hours per week.

Q: If you could be one of your own characters for a day, which one would you choose?

A: I'm torn between Tyler and Lydia from the Pain & Love set. Tyler is an alien and has seen and done so much with his long life. However, Lydia is a gorgeous, powerful and radiant Dragon soul in human form. They are both magnificent in their own way, but I think I'd lean towards Lydia. She does what she wants, when she wants, and looks fabulous the whole time!

Q: What are your goals for your writing?

A: I eventually want to write full time. I would love for people all over the world to be able to step into my worlds and enjoy time with my characters. I love them and want to share them.

Q: What kind of research do you do for your stories?

A: I do a lot of reading for my own pleasure that somehow always gets back to or encourages me down a path for research. A lot of the research I do involves meanings of names. SLI phenomenon was a really interesting piece of research that I did for Seared. I read several articles online about that fascinating topic and then put my own spin on it.

Q: Besides writing, what would you like to do with your life?

A: Something involved in film and TV, which, let's be honest, would still be writing. I would love to see my material brought to life visually.

Q: What is one interesting fact or tidbit of information about you that doesn't have anything to do with writing?

A: I am a huge fan of travel and, given the means, would never own a house or rent any living area long-term. I would love to travel all around the world. If I had the money for it, I would probably never stay in the same place for more than a month!
