The thought of spending a day showing Casper around before Christmas was infuriating. With a groan, Christopher showed him the metallic machines and chemicals in the lab. He stared at Casper’s ice-crystal staff, which hovered in the air, taking notes as Christopher spoke. An open wooden door to the living quarters grabbed his attention. He guided Casper into the narrow hallway made of warm red brick and slammed the door closed behind them.

“What are you doing? Why are you trying to ruin my first Christmas?” Christopher yelled once they were alone.

The white coat Casper wore floated to the ground. It looked heavy; it must have been laced with magic. Christopher gaped in shock at Casper’s outfit. Casper wore an icy-blue silk shirt with a deep V that showed much of his oddly tan skin. His sleeves only reached halfway down his biceps. His pants were slim-cut and midnight blue with a faint shimmer. Tall leather boots that reached his knees completed the outfit. One of the shoulders of his shirt had been cut, showing his skin, and cutouts in the shape of flakes were scattered on his shirt. His grayish-white hair was styled and cut short.

“Don’t eye me so obviously. I’m here to begin our rivalry. If it is your time to rise, I rise,” Casper said with a wink.

“Don’t you have other enemies to focus on? I thought you hated the tooth fairy. You hate so many. Focus on one of them,” Christopher hissed.

Casper twirled in his leather boots and then leaned against the wall, making sure the rips to his shirt showed his abs.

“No, no, no. I’ve hate-sabotaged and hatefully made love to so many. It is your turn to feel my wrath, and we are destined enemies,” Casper whispered, his voice lower and seductive. He had a British accent that did things to Christopher that he decided to ignore. “I’m going to make you go mad. I’m not here to punish children or hurt your little elves. That was my father’s strategy. I am here to get into your head and make it so Christmas fades as you are consumed by thoughts of me. You will despise me. You’ll want to punch, kiss, and do me by the time I’m done with you. You’ll forget what day Christmas is as December becomes marked by all-consuming, obsessive anger at me.”

The threat caused Christopher to stagger back. He couldn’t even begin to think of a response. His father would give Jack a gift, remind him of the meaning of Christmas, and warm his soul. That didn’t seem possible with Casper.

“You’re not ready, you dumb jock. Your well-mannered, polite, serving demeanor has left you truly unprepared for me. We aren’t even in the same league,” Casper continued, crossing his arms and grinning.

Christopher met Casper’s glare with one of his own. He stepped forward, facing down his enemy.

“I’ll give you any gift you want if you leave me alone,” Christopher offered. “Anything. A home, a vacation, luxury fashion. Name it. We’re both members of the Holiday Pride Club. We should work together and support one another.”

Casper walked in circles around Christopher, his slender fingers pulling at Christopher’s jeans with disgust. He quirked his brow and leaned forward, his lips almost touching Christopher’s ear.

“You must be accustomed to getting what you want. As much fun as spanking you would be, you’re my gift. I got what I wanted for Christmas. Ruining your Christmas week is my dream, and nothing compares,” Casper responded. “Buckle up. You can’t even imagine what I have in store for you.”
