Miles is a world famous popstar whose songs are loved by millions of people, but at eighteen, it’s hard to be finally making it in the big world. As his manager, his mother has expectations for who he can spend time with and date. One problem: Miles is in love with his best friend Jaden and wants to take the next step in their relationship.
But it must be kept secret, from Miles’ fans and his mother. Kissing behind closed doors, holding hands under the table, and looking at each other is as much as they can do. When his mother suspects they’re dating, she sets out to find someone for her son who is as popular as he is. Pop princess Leah fits the bill, and Miles is confused when sparks fly between them. He’s torn between two people he really likes. How can he choose who gets his heart?
As soon as we’re alone, he kisses me -- stealing the breath right from my lungs.
I wrap my arms around his neck as he kisses me like he never wants to stop. His hands slide to my waist, tightening his grip, and I can feel how much he’s enjoying this moment -- just like I am.
Our lips move in perfect sync, holding on to each other like we’re afraid to let go. With my packed schedule and the fact that we’re keeping this relationship secret, these moments are rare -- and we like to make them last.
When he finally pulls away, I cup his cheeks and smile at him, full of love and awe.
“I can’t believe you snuck out for me,” I say with a little giggle, giddy with how much he’s willing to do just to see me smile.
Jaden smiles and pulls me close. “Of course I did. Why wouldn’t I? I saw you on that stage looking absolutely gorgeous, and I told Stacy there was no way I could miss the chance to come to your hotel. It was hard getting a room next to yours, though. Apparently a lot of people wanted it. But I was first in line, so everyone else behind me missed out.”
My cheeks flush. People wanted the room beside mine? I know I have fans, and they love me, but ... I wish more of them understood privacy and boundaries.
Jaden notices the concern on my face and instantly reassures me.
“Hey… don’t worry, handsome. I’ve got the room until you leave, okay? No one else is getting in.”
I know Jaden works at his family’s bakery here in Toronto, which makes me feel a little guilty. He used his hard-earned money for this hotel room -- just to make sure I feel safe.
Warmth spreads through my chest as I look at him, completely in awe.
He gently takes my hand and leads me to the chair by the window. Sitting down, he pats his lap, and I instantly get the hint.
I climb onto him, straddling his lap with my arms around his neck, while his arms wrap securely around my waist.
“I had to come see you tonight,” he says. “Tomorrow’s the meet-and-greet, and the day after that you’re flying to L.A. for the Fan Choice Awards. Sure, I’ll be at the show with you and Stace, but I won’t be able to interact with you the way I want to.”
Cue swoon.
He knows my schedule by heart. I lean in and give him a soft kiss on the lips.
“You know it’s a huge green flag if your boyfriend knows your schedule,” I tease with a grin.
His lips part slightly, and he looks deep into my eyes.
My heart freezes for a beat.
Did I just say boyfriend?
Oh no.
I didn’t mean to say it -- not like that. We can’t be official. Not with my schedule. Sure, we have fun together when we get the chance, but that’s all this can be ... right?
But the smile that spreads across his face devastates me.
“Boyfriend,” he repeats thoughtfully, then meets my gaze with a grin. “I think I really like the sound of that.”
Crap.
I force a smile and let out a nervous giggle -- then quickly distract him with another kiss.
“Don’t worry, the award show is going to be so much fun. I promise. Just make sure not to answer any questions from reporters, okay?” I say.
Jaden nods with total trust in me, which only makes me love him more.
