My name is Becca Van. I live in Australia with my wonderful hubby of many years, as well as my children, a pigeon pair (a girl and a boy). I have always wanted to write and last year decided to take the plunge.

I didn’t want to stay in the mainstream of a boring nine-to-five job, so I quit to fulfill my passion for writing. I decided to utilize my time with something I knew I would enjoy and had always wanted to do. I submitted my first manuscript to Siren-BookStrand a couple of months ago; and much to my excited delight, I got a reply saying they would love to publish my story. I literally jump out of bed with excitement each day and can’t wait for my laptop to power up so I can get to work.

Q: What time do you start writing each day?

A: I wake up from anywhere between 5:00 and 7:00 a.m. The first thing I do is grab a coffee and my laptop. I check for any incoming emails and then I begin work on my latest story. I usually have an hour of writing under my belt by the time my teenage son is ready for school. I take him to school, come back home, grab another coffee and get to work. There are never enough hours in the day for me to utilize my passion for writing.

Q: Do you plot out a story before you start?

A: Yes I do, but the plotting is minimal. I find that I can just sit down and begin typing. The story just seems to flow from my fingertips. And even though I may have an idea where I want my story to go, I can find my characters lead me in a totally different direction. I sometimes don’t know what I will write from paragraph to paragraph, let alone a page. It’s exciting to see how my characters develop and lead me the way they want to go, rather than the other way around.

Q: How long have you been writing for?

A: I have been writing for about eighteen months now and love the fact that I can create characters and stories which people want to read. I love to hear from readers about what they think of my stories, so if you want to contact me, or just let me know what you think of my work, don’t hesitate to send me an email. It may take me a couple of days to reply, but reply I will.

Q: What do you do in your spare time?

A: I love to read, spend time with my family, listen to music and occasionally watch a move. I do watch television, but reading a book always wins out over the TV. Nothing beats reading a great story.

Q: How long does it take you to write a story?

A: It usually takes me approximately a week to write a story. It takes me four to five days to write the story, sometimes three if I am on a roll; and I may take a day or two to edit. Depends on whether I get straight into writing another book or if I need a little break from the laptop, on how quickly I edit a story and begin another.
