Brionna stepped into the house carrying several bags and strode to the living room where Randi had set the Christmas tree up last night. They still had to decorate it, and Brionna had picked up several items she wanted to add.

However, her mother had counseled her not to make the tree her own this year, just to add a few things to commemorate their first Christmas together. Having taken her mother’s advice, Brionna had far fewer bags than she’d have next year.

She pulled up short, finding Milina lounging on the couch. The other girl glared at her and Brionna put her bags down.

“I guess you can’t wait to turn our tree into your tree,” she muttered.

Brionna faced her and drew in a breath and slowly let it out. The boxes of ornaments and things were just waiting to be added to the tree, but Randi had put the lights on already, it appeared.

She turned to face Milina and walked over to the couch where the girl glared at her.

“I don’t want your next few months here to be the most tense you’ve ever had in your life or that I’ve had in mine.”

“What is the solution? You and my mother move out?”

“Can you stop trying to spew hate at me for one minute?” she asked quietly. “I always liked you and Maia, and I’ve thought your mother was a sexy and attractive woman for years, but it’s only been in recent years—the last two or three that I’ve thought of approaching her.”

“I—”

“I had no idea my interest would make you feel threatened or misplaced,” Brionna broke in. “If I had known, I never would have gone after Randi so hard. I would have dragged things out, but, Milina, I don’t want to take your time with your mother from you.”

Milina just stared at her, confusion on her pretty face.

“I know how important you and Maia are to her. When we first started dating, Randi told me her weekends were for you guys, and I respected that,” Brionna told her. “I know how great it is to have time with your mother. I love being with mine.”

“So?”
