IC is gone, but his legacy lingers…

Having quit SPD, Montana is ready to embrace her life as a Mist Coyote, but when the police chief is killed, she’s called back to duty and tasked with the job of finding his killer. Only, the case isn’t as cut and dried as she thought it would be. Rowel’s death is tied to her last case, the cartel, and the missing money.

As Montana wades deeper into the case, she uncovers police corruption, a fledgling cartel, and the murder of a buyer who risked her life to help her mate. She also falls deeper in love with her own mate Dylan who is nearly killed.

Once again, bold moves are called for and when the last card is laid on the table the coyotes and wolves will pull together for Coyote Justice.

Dylan leaned against Montana, who was shaking her head at something their alpha’s mate had just said while the alpha, Claudia Mayer, reached for her cell phone, a grin on her face.

“So, what are you going to do about Drew?” Kyra Lyon asked, and Dylan frowned.

Drew was one of the pack’s soldiers who was proving problematic with his misogynistic attitude, which was starting to rub Dylan the wrong way.

“Claude, he hasn’t talked to you yet?” Dylan asked.

“There hasn’t been time,” she answered, looking at her cell phone’s display. “We’re meeting in the morning. Yeah? What? Are you sure? Shit. No. No. I’ve got it.” She ended the call.

“What is it, sweetie?” Kyra asked.

“It’s Rowel,” she said quietly. “He was—” The ring of her phone cut Claudia off mid-sentence. “Yes?” she asked impatiently. She listened for a moment. “Damn. Are you certain? Call Sam and Mallory. They’re going to want to deal with this.”

“Deal with what?” Kyra asked with a frown.

“The DA was killed and the judge he was having dinner with was shot along with the judge’s wife. They don’t know if they’re still alive.”

“Oh, no,” Kyra whispered.

“He was shot three times, but he’s still alive,” Claudia answered gravely. “Montana, it’s time to go to work.”

“I’m not the chief anymore,” Montana replied coolly. “That was Rowel—”

“You’re the only one qualified with Nair behind bars, so let’s get going,” Claudia cut in. “You’re back on the payroll, not that you were ever taken off. You’re still listed as on leave. Well, break time’s over.”

Dylan straightened, her gaze going to Montana. She was tense and her expression was one of anger.

Not more than two weeks ago, Montana had been put on leave for malfeasance in office or something like that, and she’d said she wasn’t going back. Dylan had urged her to reconsider, but Montana hadn’t made any moves to take her old job as police chief of Snowbury, Connecticut back.

“I’m willing to bet this is all connected,” Kyra murmured. “What are the odds of a judge, the DA, and the police chief being shot in the same night?”

“I agree,” Claudia replied. “Montana, I want the shooter or shooters caught, and I don’t trust those wolves to do the job, so get your ass to work,” Claudia told her firmly.

Montana got to her feet and grabbed her jacket from the back of her chair and slipped it on as Dylan rose.

“Kyra, take my car and you and Dylan can head back to the den.” Claudia reached into her back pocket for her wallet and tossed a bill on the table.

“I’ll get the tip,” Dylan said. “See you soon, honey.” She kissed Montana’s cheek, but her mate seemed stiff and cool to the touch.

“Right. Yeah.” Montana caressed her cheek. “Don’t wait up. This could take a while.”
