To stop a future of annihilation, dark fairies plot to extinguish the threat in the present.

Unsuspecting of the danger, Jorja is unaware that a time traveler has come from thirty-seven years in the future to change the past to prevent her own death at the hands of Jorja’s eldest, Amari, the Summer Queen. In that future, Amari is doling out death but the queen at her back isn’t her mother, but the Autumn Queen.

When Jorja learns of this possible future, she’s stunned. Why wouldn’t she support her daughter in a war against dark fairies? There is only one answer, and Amari’s kidnapping puts Jorja in a race against time to save her daughter.

Naturally, there is only one warrior she can call to help protect her family, but there is a hit on Russo as well. As the two warriors come together once again, the future insists only one of them will survive.

“Now that’s settled,” Jorja said. “Let’s get down to business.”

“The hits,” Russo said.

“Do you know who the witches are that are working with Dark Doors, dark fairies?” Jorja asked.

“The Society, Black Fog, and Black Talon,” Russo told her. “We’ve been monitoring them as they have a beef with witches I’m allied with.”

“Gray Light.”

“For one,” Russo said. “All I’ve heard so far is they’re out to knock me off, but I’m more the witches’ concern than the fairies’. The fairies are only interested in me if they can’t get you and your girls.”

“Why do they want the girls dead?”

“Ryd, anything on that?” Russo asked, giving the golden skinned woman a look.

“The girls are a future threat,” Ryd said. “Your daughter is supposed to annihilate a kingdom.”

“That’s how she becomes the Summer Queen,” Jorja murmured with a frown. She was going to wage a war and take a kingdom? She wasn’t going to teach her child that.

So, what was going to happen to make it so?

“Before you ask, my source only knows what your daughter Amari is going to be. In the future, she’s going to defeat someone, a powerful fairy leader of Dark Doors who’s attempting to pull off what Locane Blackdust did here.”

So, Russo knew how she’d gained a crown?

She had done her homework.

“That is crazy,” Jorja murmured. “They can’t hold her responsible for something that’s going—that could change.”

“Is that all this person had to say?” Russo asked. “Surely, there has to have been more.”

“She said there was more, but she’d only talk to you,” Ryd told her. “I told her that was impossible. She could—”

“Set it up,” Russo said. “Find out if she can do it tonight. Did she want money?”

“She didn’t mention it, but I got the feeling that might be the problem.”

“Take care of it and let me know the time later,” Russo said.

“I want to be there,” Jorja insisted.

“I’ll call you right after the meeting, I’ll even record it. We don’t want to spook this person,” Russo told her. “We need to find out all we can even if this is a trick.”

“Right,” Jorja muttered. “A trick.” She needed to stay with Jena and the kids anyway. She’d have to trust Russo with this. “I want one of my people with you.”

“Don’t be ridiculous,” she answered calmly. “I’m not going to lie to you. We’re both targets.”

“Fine, but if you pull a fast one—”

“Don’t threaten me,” Russo cut her off coldly. “I’m not a wet behind the ears kid, and I’m not afraid of you.”

Jorja studied her for a long moment. “Silver, Ryd, leave us alone,” Jorja said coolly.

“Go,” Russo ordered.

They stepped out of the house, and Russo merely leaned back, an air of unconcern about her.

Jorja continued to hold her gaze. “Get any interesting packages this afternoon, like from Italy?”
