Frey Ortega writes erotic romance, primarily of the gay variety. He lives in what a friend affectionately calls “the south-easternmost part of Spain,” which is an archipelago called the Philippines. He’s a graduate of the Royal, Pontifical, and Catholic University in Manila, with a Bachelors of Science degree in Psychology. Primarily, he works as a writer, a novelist, sometimes a video game journalist, and overall a homebody who spends way too much time on the internet.

He loves writing about people, especially people of all different shapes, sizes and backgrounds, falling in love. You might also find him playing video games from time to time! His favorite ones are MMORPGs, and role-playing games in general (and not just the ones in the bedroom.)

Q: If you could be a character in any kind of book or movie, who would you be?

A: I've always wanted to be the sassy second-in-command to a romantic comedy type setting. You know, the friend whose main storyline is to provide both comedic relief and sage advice to the hero/heroine? I think it'd be hilarious to be exasperated 90% of the time in the book/movie.

Q: Which comes first for you, the characters, the plot, or the setting?

A: Definitely the plot. Sometimes I work out details of the character through the plot, and give them their own voice only after I've written out what could happen to them. Their eventual personalities do shape the story when I'm writing it, though, and that makes it fun, when they veer off a totally different direction.

Q: Do you have anything you absolutely must do, or must have, while you're writing?

A: When I'm in the zone, I can pop out thousands of words a day without batting an eyelash. On the other hand, though, sometimes I'm so lazy that even a hundred words is difficult for me when there is a distraction known as the internet. So if there's anything I must have, it would have to be inspiration... or the money to go to a coffee shop with my laptop so that I can focus on my writing!

Q: Do you work on multiple stories all at once?

A: No, then I would never get any writing done! I only focus on them one at a time, but when I have interesting ideas I write down a synopsis and work on it another time.

Q: What message do you want to bring across with your stories?

A: I want to bring a sparkle into people's lives, even if only for the moments where they read my stories. I want to show that love can blossom in any strange environment, and thrive when it's brought out of it. Happily ever after can happen, for you, for me, for anyone - and most certainly the heroes in my novels.

Q: Define your own sexy hero.

A: Handsome, definitely; although "rugged" could be good too, although not necessary. Someone who's hard on the outside but has a soft spot on the inside for the person he loves. Immensely loyal, too. Someone who doesn't mind protecting the person he loves... preferably someone with an amazing sense of humor, too. Everything else is just a great add-on bonus!

Q: Finally, do you have any parting message to any potential reader?

A: Thank you for taking an interest in my work, and I hope fervently that you enjoy them!
