Sutter’s Bay’s newest dentist, Dane Cloverfield, is surprised to be approached by his two married friends, Urie and Ben Upton. They’d like him to join with them in a polyamorous relationship.

Dane’s cautious, though, because he’s been in a sort of relationship with Urie before and got burned. Plus, with Urie and Ben being married, he’s afraid he’ll always be on the outside looking in.

But Ben and Urie love Dane and are happy to welcome him into their lives. Now they simply have to convince Dane.

They were sipping cocktails on the veranda. It was one of those places where they called porches verandas. They’d only recently purchased the house in the Blackberry Arches community and so they still spent a lot of time enjoying their new surroundings.

It wasn’t that Ben was dissatisfied with his marriage or sex life. Sex was good always. It was just that he was so very attracted to Dane in every way.

“You know, I hesitated to bring this up, but ...”

Urie had given him a quizzical smile. “What is it?”

“Remember how we met?” Ben sipped his drink. A blackberry mojito, actually.

“I’m not likely to forget that.”

Ben shrugged. “It’s not that I want to do something like that, exactly, but I was thinking of some adventure for us.”

“Adventure?”

“A third. I was thinking of a threesome,” Ben said as bluntly as he could. He realized he was blushing a bit, though he wasn’t entirely sure why. He supposed he thought maybe Urie would think it meant something against him? “It’s not that I think --”

He was a little surprised when Urie interrupted him with a laugh.

“You think the idea is funny?” Ben asked carefully.

“No, I think the idea that suggesting we do a threesome is somehow offensive to my ego or something.” Urie shook his head. “Honey, sex is great. Wanting to add a bit of extra into our sex life is not a big deal. It doesn’t make me love you less or want you less. Plus with us making that decision together, there’s no talk of being unfaithful or any of that.”

Ben smiled. “Not sure how I feel about you not even trying to talk me out of it.”

That made Urie laugh again. “You want me to say no?”

“No,” he admitted. “No. It’s just ... well what if I wanted to, uh, make this third more than a one-time thing.”

“You mean we’d do threesomes frequently?”

“Not exactly. I was thinking of someone in particular I think both of us might like to-to include in our relationship.” Ben sighed. “If that’s not too weird.”

“Dane,” Urie said without hesitation. “You want Dane.”

“Does that bother you?”

“Not at all. That would be immediately who I’d want even if it was a one-time thing. Not really sure he’d be willing to do the relationship though. Considering my own history with him.”

Ben pursed his lips. “We could take things slow then. Have the one time to start and then if we’re all willing to continue, we’d convince him.”

Urie’s mouth twitched. “Convincing Dane might not be so easy. He might be way more strait-laced than you and me.”

“One way to find out, though, right?”
