Cardiologist Wyatt Smith is on his way to a conference with fellow employee Levi Johnson when they are about to run out of gas the day before Christmas Eve. It’s snowing hard, making visibility difficult. Wyatt makes the decision to get cabin rooms at a motel before the car runs out of gas. There’s only one cabin available, though, and it’s the honeymoon suite.

Levi is a little pissed Wyatt didn’t fill up the rental car’s gas tank before they hit the road. He has always respected the brilliant surgeon, and has a little crush on him, too. But when Wyatt suggests they get some rooms at a motel straight out of a horror flick, Levi thinks the good doctor is out of his damn mind. With a blizzard on the way closing the roads, they have no choice but to hunker down and share a cabin until the weather clears.

Wyatt and Levi harbor crushes on each other, though neither dares hope the other feels the same. Will being forced to share the only bed force them to admit their feelings?

Excerpt

Levi woke up in the middle of the night to the feel of the wind shaking the cabin. He got out of bed to use the restroom. The bedroom was cold. It felt like the fireplace had gone out. Even though he had on flannel pajamas, a robe and his fuzzy slippers he still felt it. He used the bathroom they walked toward the living room. He found Wyatt sound asleep on the sofa. He was so tall his feet hung over the arm. The fire in the hearth had gone out. It was a good thing he had paid attention to Emerson’s explanation on how to light it again. He got the fire roaring then went over to the other side of the room to wake Wyatt. Wyatt was sound asleep. Levi shook him gently.

Wyatt woke up and stared at him through blurry baby blue eyes.

“Come to bed. It’s big enough for us to share.”

Wyatt was still a bit groggy, so Levi took his hand and led him back. Wyatt smelled of soap and shampoo. He must have come in and bathe after Levi had fallen asleep. He put Wyatt to bed. Levi put a pillow down the middle of the bed, then got out of his robe and slippers and crawled back under the covers. Surprisingly, he went back off to sleep.

Mixed temperatures woke him up again. His face was cold.

Wyatt spooned up against him, surprising him. Something solid and large pressed up against his back.

Levi gulped. He was a guy, so he knew exactly what that was. His heart beat rapidly against his chest. Wyatt was still asleep and had no idea that he had rolled over that pillow and was hugging him protectively. To move suddenly would put both of them in embarrassing situations.

Levi tried to slowly ease his body to the left, but got another surprise when Wyatt pulled him back into the warmth of his body.

“Where are you going?”

“To get ready to leave,” Levi answered, not knowing if Wyatt was talking in his sleep or not. “We have a conference this morning, remember?”

“What time is it?”

Levi tried to sneak his cell phone, but he was still trapped by Wyatt’s big leg.

Wyatt must have sensed his dilemma and freed him.

Levi managed to reach his phone. “Five A.M.”

Wyatt snatched him back against him. “It’s still early. I have my alarm set for seven.”

“I have to pee,” Levi said.

Wyatt freed him again. “Hurry back. I need your body heat.”

Levi scowled. He was nobody’s glorified bed warmer. He got off the bed and hurried to the bathroom. He flushed the toilet after he finished, then he walked over the sink to wash his hands. He pumped soap into his left palm then tried to turn on the water. It trickled out. It was barely enough to him to rinsed the suds from his hands. Maybe the pipes were freezing up. He let the stream trickle and did the same for the bath tub. He was sure with all that snow they had fell below the freezing level and the pipes might break.

Wyatt was snoring peacefully in the same spot Levi had left him.

The cold got to Levi. He hopped back into the bed.

Wyatt snatched him back into the spoon. He snuggled up against Levi’s back. Levi sighed. Wyatt must have been a puppy in his previous life. He closed his eyes and dozed off again.
