Excerpt

I needed something else to do. I placed my laptop on the desk, but I had no desire to write. It was then that I realized that I had forgotten to pack books. I pulled my e-reader from out of my laptop bag, but it didn't have enough power to turn on. I plugged it in and paced the room some more. Finally, I grabbed my room key and the ice bucket from on top of the mini-fridge and set out in search of the ice machine. It was tucked away in a corner of the sixth floor with both soda and food vending machines near it.

I grabbed the ice bucket, but shook my head when I realized I had left my wallet back in my room. All I wanted was a diet soda.

As I was moving the ice bucket around and searching for the electronic hotel key in my robe, I heard him.

"So there you are," Stefano said in a low voice from behind me. "I've been scouring this hotel hoping to find you."

"Look, I ..." I said, wanting to explain why I had run out, but not wanting to be anywhere near him again.

"No, I'm sorry if we scared you," he said, grabbing the ice bucket from my hand. "Sometimes we come across a little strong."

"You normally have threesomes with your sister and other people?" I asked.

"It happens," he said. "Usually someone finds one or the other of us more attractive."

"So that's what you do? Instead of relationships you just seduce people with your sister? What's up with that whole hang out outside of the ropes thing? That was a little bizarre."

"Why don't I come in for a while and we can talk about it?"

He leaned in and went to kiss my neck, but then his head suddenly shot up.

"You smell different," he said.

"Yeah, I just got out of the shower. No cologne."

"You smell familiar," he said.

"Well, I get the feeling this isn't your first time being around someone who's used this hotel's toiletries."

He laughed, and grabbed the key from my hand. I watched as his hand slid the electronic key through the slot on the door. When the green light signaled, I turned the doorknob.

"You need to go," I said. "And I need my key."

"Let me put the ice down," he said, walking in the door.

I followed him in the door, and closed it, hoping no one else would come barging in. He walked to the mini-refrigerator and put the ice in it, then he walked to the bed and stretched out on it. He propped himself up on one elbow and looked at me.

"What are you doing?" I asked.

"I thought I would spend the night."

"You do that sort of thing?"

He chuckled, and then kicked off his shoes.

"As you mentioned, this isn't my first time in this hotel," he said.

"That's exactly what bothers me," I said, walking a little closer to him.
