Quinn Stacy is searching for something. That something has been compelling him to come to Blue Springs for a long time. After finally working up the nerve, he spends the last of his money on a bus ticket, some food, and he just goes.

Quinn is cursed. He can tell who is and isn't a shifter, though shifters aren't supposed to exist. Sensing them is one thing, but he gets so damned cold when they're nearby. Freezing. Now there are shifters after him, because he was apparently another servant to the wolf king.

And they want him dead.

But there's one wolf who will protect Quinn at all costs. A handsome alpha, who has the power to warm up Quinn from the inside out, chasing away the cold, making him feel human again.

When Quinn finds that, when he finds Luke, he's not about to let him go.

STORY EXCERPT

Dylan was their new healer. It wouldn’t be good to lose the man so soon after getting him.

Erik stood over Dylan, nudging his shoulder with his foot. “It’s just a nose bleed. Stop being a baby.”

“Fuck you”.” Dylan raised up his middle finger to Erik, his other hand clutching at his bleeding nose.

Luke didn’t know which one of them was more annoying.

“Erik, get out of the way, and watch him,” he said, nodding to the young man Luke wanted to grab and hold onto.

“Dylan, are you all right?” Luke gently put his hand on the young man’s shoulder.

Dylan nodded, screwing his eyes shut. “Just…kind of headachy. Give me a minute.”

This seemed to happen whenever he healed anyone. Though this was only the second time he’d done it. The result was the same.

Nosebleed. Headache.

“He good?” Erik demanded.

It was possible that every time Dylan healed someone, it took a little something from him.

Hopefully a small headache, and a little bloody nose, was the worst he would be suffering.

Luke helped Dylan to sit up, patting his shoulder. “He’ll be fine,” Luke said, leaving Dylan back to Erik’s care as he went to the other man, the one he was most interested in.

The young man, perhaps in his early twenties, beautiful, though pale and somewhat sickly looking, sat in bewilderment. He stared at his bloody shoulder, and then at Dylan.

His shoulder was now a red scar. It might never leave him, but Luke breathed a heady sigh to realize that it was not a mating scar. He was not joined with that other wolf.

Though it was close enough that Luke growled to think of that bastard putting his mark anywhere on the man.

It was enough to make him want to rush after the prick and force him to eat dirt before killing him.

Luke, aware that they were on the side of the road, that a car or truck could drive by at any time, and that the man in front of him was likely not used to seeing two men turning into wolf shifters, or having them naked in front of him so soon after, knelt down.

“My name is Luke. What’s yours?”

A name. He needed a name. He needed to know.

“Q-Quinn. Stacy.”

“Quinn Stacy?”

Quinn nodded. He trembled some more.

At first, Luke thought it was because he was afraid. Perhaps a little of it was exactly that, but then there was something else.

With every breath he took, Luke could make out a small puff of steam. As though he were walking around in the snow.

Luke pressed his hand to the back of Quinn’s neck.

Quinn flinched at first, but then he seemed to relax into the touch.

As though it was exactly what he needed in that moment.

He moaned.

Luke could understand why. Whatever it was that made him so damned cold, the heat from Luke’s hand pushing into him seemed to be helping.

He pushed more of his heat into the man, as though he were trying to sink the man into a warm bath. To give him the care he clearly, desperately needed.

“That’s…really good,” Quinn said.

Luke felt a swell of pride inside himself, that he was able to give the man something he clearly, desperately needed.

Ever since discovering he was a werewolf, all he seemed to be able to do was shift into his wolf shape, fight, and sometimes to kill.

His body heat was atrocious. At least by human standards, but if Luke was cold and it could give him some comfort, Luke would happily give it.

Never in his life did he expect to look up and find that his body heat would be of such good use.

“Uh, Luke?” Erik asked. “What are you doing?”

“Helping,” Luke said with a small growl, then, despite how warm and at peace Quinn looked, Luke had to look around and realize where they were.

He nearly forgot.

“We need to get dressed. We need to get off the road.”

“Right,” Erik said, yanking Dylan up by his elbow. “We’re wasting time. More are coming.”

More?” Dylan stopped glaring at Erik, staring at Luke now as though he’d just revealed that the world was about to come to an end.

More blood trickled from his nose. He brought his sleeve up to wipe at it, then rolled his eyes and glared down at the splotch of blood he’d just put on his shirt.

Both men were bleeding. Even with the healing Dylan had done, Luke was well aware of the scrapes and minor slashes that covered Quinn’s body.

As though Dylan had been unable to get to them.

“We have to get out of here,” Luke said. “Right now.”

Erik nodded, going back to the spot where they’d stopped the car.

Thankfully, it had been Dylan who was driving, and he’d been able to put the car in park when everyone jumped out.

As he drove, Luke and Erik had taken the time to get out of their clothes, preventing their ruin.

Which was good because they didn’t have a change of them.

“Quinn, you have to come with us,” Luke said, helping the man to his feet, easing him towards the car.

Dylan took one look at where Luke was trying to take him, and he pulled back.

“N-no.”

“It’s okay. I got you. Nothing bad will happen to you.”

Quinn stared at him with wide, terrified eyes. “But you’re the monster.”

ADULT EXCERPT

Quinn felt a full-body shiver that had nothing to do with the cold. He noted, his fingers still trailing through Luke’s hair, that the man was able to make him warm and keep his body vibrating.

“Maybe we shouldn’t do anything here,” Luke said suddenly, scaring the piss out of Quinn.

“Here is fine.”

He was so close to getting something he hadn’t even known he’d been waiting for, for so many years of his life.

He would be damned if he stopped now.

Time to get this party started while they had the time.

The sudden glowing in Luke’s eyes was…unexpected, but again, nothing that frightened him, or made him think of the monsters he’d dreamed about for his entire life.

If anything, it made him feel protected.

Safe.

“Please,” Quinn whispered. He didn’t care if he was begging, or if he looked or sounded pathetic. There was a desperate need in him, an instinctive drive that refused to be ignored.

In fact, it felt like it would be knocking on the door to his brain until he gave in.

“I want you inside me.”

The glow in Luke’s eyes brightened. His nostrils flared. Just beneath the surface, Quinn could see the struggle the other man had.

As though he wanted to give into the wolf inside of him, but didn’t dare allow it to have so much power.

“Do you…have control?”

“Yes. Do you trust me?”

Quinn didn’t even have to think about it. The answer was right there, as clear as day and as right as the morning sun.

“Yes.”

With everything that he had inside of him, he trusted this man.

Quinn wasn’t quite ready to say that part out loud, but he got the feeling that Luke understood.

Luke kissed him on the mouth again, slow and sweet. It was as though the man was struggling between being comforting and soft, and just taking what he wanted. Taking what they both needed while they still had the time.

They were taking a risk doing this. There were still dangerous people out there who wanted to see them both hurt.

Or dead.

It was actually a very bad idea that they do this. They needed to keep on guard.

The problem was that the wild animals inside of them refused to give them any peace.

Quinn had never had a quickie before with somebody he just met.

It was a good thing this wasn’t an average quickie, and Luke wasn’t just some guy he picked up.

They were mates. They were soulmates.

If that didn’t entitle them to rush into sex he didn’t know what did.

Luke’s hand came back down to Quinn’s cock. The man stroked between his legs, his hand over Quinn’s jeans, at first, before he worked Luke’s belt, his fingers slipping beneath the denim.

His hand was so big that there was no way he would be able to grip Quinn’s cock the way Quinn needed him to, but the sensation of his heated fingers, stroking over the shaft, made Quinn moan at the stunning pleasure of it.

He shivered again, eyes screwing shut as he humped and thrust against that hand.

Like he had’t just had an orgasm a few minutes ago. Like he was lost to sensation.

He was lost. He was drunk.

This might have to be a quickie, something to pull their heads above water, but there was nothing quick or careless about this.

Quinn puffed for breath, and he’d never felt warmer in his whole life.

“You want me to fuck you?”

Quinn nodded dumbly.

“Say it.” Luke kept right on stroking his cock. “Tell me you want my dick inside you.”

Quinn nodded, still thrusting mindlessly against Luke’s hand.

They’d done this before. Quinn could tell. Just not here.

“I…I want you to fuck me. Please,” he moaned the words, unable to hold himself back.
